Miniature Schnauzer RescueFoster Homes URGENTLY Needed

MSCNC's rescue team, composed of Walter Poeth, Mary Alford, Rowena Morrison, Betsie Corwin, and (down south) John Hoffman and Joyce Nagel, has been very active. With so many people losing their homes, many, many dogs been losing their homes too. In fact, the rescue team has placed about 300 dogs in the past two years.

Rescue involves a lot of driving to pick up dogs, to take them to veterinarians, and to meet adopters. We get Schnauzers from all over California, but primarily from rural areas because those shelters tend to have low placement and high euthanasia rates.

MSCNC Rescue urgently needs foster homes all over California and in northern Nevada for Miniature Schnauzers pending their placement in permanent homes.

If you are in northern California or northern Nevada, please call Walter Poeth, 530 873-6608, for further information if you are able to help out, or email him at GlasSchnauzers@aol.com. If you are in southern California, please call John Hoffman, 818 790-4172, for further information if you are able to help out, or email him at canada@dslextreme.com.

Rescue dogs who need good new homes are available NOW.
See our Rescue Dog Galleries for northern and southern California.

New PRA Research at Cornell/U. Penn—Blood Samples Needed From Affected Schnauzers

OptiGen, the testing laboratory affiliated with Cornell University's veterinary school, is actively seeking samples from any & all PRA-affected Miniature Schnauzers so that they can be included in a current research study to determine the causes of PRA in Miniature Schnauzers.  OptiGen will test the PRA-affected dogs at no charge and will let the owners know if the cause of the PRA is Type A PRA, or some other type not yet identified. If Type A is not the cause of the PRA, OptiGen will include the samples in the research to identify the other cause(s) of PRA in the breed.  If you know of any PRA-affected Miniature Schnauzers, please do encourage the owners to contact Sue Pierce-Kelling, suepk@optigen.com, about this research.
