Dog Show Information
Dog shows are a good place to meet responsible breeders who are showing their dogs to see how they stack up against the best specimens of the breed. Admission to most shows is either free or no more than $8.00 per person.

All Breed Dog Shows
Because of the need for computerized facilities to quickly process large numbers of entries, most dog clubs that hold shows hire professional dog show superintendents to handle the paperwork. Several of the superintendents have web sites that provide information on the shows they superintend. Content varies, but they usually include information on upcoming shows, including directions to the show grounds, judging schedules showing the number of entries in each breed and the time at which they will be shown, and, in some cases, results of past shows. The great majority of northern California shows are superintended by MB-F and the great majority of southern California shows are superintended by Bradshaw.

AKC Point Schedule
A dog must acquire 15 championship points, including at least two "majors," to complete an AKC championship. From 1 to 5 championship points are awarded at each dog show to the best male and best female, not already a champion, of each breed. The number of points depends on the number of animals of that breed and sex that are competing at the show. The AKC Schedule of Points (link below) specifies the number of points to be awarded. It varies by area of the country (California is Division 9), by sex, and by breed. A "major" is 3 or more points at a single show. The reason "majors" are required is to avoid the possibility of an animal becoming a champion by accumulating its 15 points at many small shows with minimal competition.
