Schnauzer Fun Day, May 2, 2009
Napa will never be the same: On May 2nd 65 people and 45 Miniature Schnauzers met at the Napa Valley Dog Training Club. We had an area gated off so the dogs could run and play off leash and we all stood around watching and laughing. They had a wonderful time meeting and (doggie) greeting each other. A couple of them even started dancing.
After about an hour of playtime we had a short Obedience lesson. Some of the dogs had already been in classes and this was the first time for others. I really think the owners had a great time and hopefully learned a trick or two on how to get their dog to do what they want.
Then came lunch, we had quite a spread, everything from Chips and Dip to Pasta Salad, Broccoli Cheese Quiche, Strawberry & Potsticker Salad, Fried Chicken and lots and lots of wonderful desserts, all calorie free of course.
We had a short General Meeting, noting Sarah Van Dyke was there for her second meeting. Now she will be published and back to fun and games.
Then came time for the Conformation Class. Walter Poeth did a wonderful job as Judge. He went over each and every dog and gave each owner a pat on the back for having such a wonderfully put together dog and in such good shape. Pictured below are the Conformation Class winners. Walter also held a Special Conformation Class for the Rescue dogs. It was heartwarming to see all the people and how proud they are of their dogs.

Then came time for some serious work. It was CGC (Canine Good Citizen) evaluation time. We had 4 teams (person & dog) enter of which 3 teams passed. Judy Sousa had a big smile on her face because all dogs that passed the evaluation and received their ribbon and a certificate from AKC were “Jubilee” Schnauzers.
After watching the CGC evaluation it was time for some more fun. We set up an Obstacle Course. We had a tunnel, hula hoops, short teeter, small a-frame, gates to walk through and poles to weave through. Everyone had a great time trying everything out.
The day ended around 3:30pm.
I would like to say THANK YOU to my committee: Judy Sousa, Rene Wigen, and Cheryl Dugan for putting together a wonderful raffle and a full day of working to make sure our Fun Day was a success. Thank you also to Walter Poeth for everything he did for our special day. Thanks also to Sandra Hendry and Sarah Van Dyke for making our raffle a complete success. They won’t take no for an answer when they approach you with a roll of tickets in their hand.
We are looking forward to next year and our:
