Rescued Dogs Now In New Homes
The MSCNC has rehomed more than 300 Miniature Schnauzers during the past three years and many Schnauzer mixes as well. Here are some of them.
Willie
Willie is a purebred salt & pepper Miniature Schnauzer. We think he is about 3 years old. We rescued Willie from the Ventura County shelter on December 30, 2011.
Willie is a compact little Schnauzer. He weighs about 15 lbs. He is friendly and gets along with other dogs. We have not had him around children or cats yet. He seems to be housebroken.
Willie appears to be in good health. He is neutered, microchipped, and up-to-date on vaccinations.
Willie was adopted on January 31, 2012 by a couple in Los Angeles, both of whom are screenplay writers and who will do a lot of their work at home under Willie's supervision.
Diamond
Diamond is a female Schnauzer mix, who is about 3 years old. We rescued her from the Lancaster shelter, to which her former owner took her because he was moving and could not take her.
Diamond is on the small size for a Miniature Schnauzer. She is gray and white with a bit of brown. (She is not as brown as she appears in the photo.) Diamond is very friendly and looks “Schnauzery.”
Diamond is spayed, microchipped, and up to date on her vaccinations.
Diamond was adopted by a Jamestown family on January 30, 2012.
Duffy

Duffy is a neat purebred black Miniature Schnauzer who was rescued from the San Martin shelter south of San Jose. He was a matted, filthy mess when we got him, but after grooming and bathing he looks and feels sooooo much better! Our thanks to master groomer and MSCNC Schnauzer breeder Judy Sousa for putting the finishing touches on Duffy’s grooming.
Duffy is a tall, slender boy who weighs about 20 lbs. Duffy has a two-toned black coat—his body coat is light black, but his ears, beard, and feet are a darker black. He is a handsome Schnauzer who will look even betterwhen his coat and beard grow out.
Duffy is about 7 years old. He is great with other dogs—non-assertive and quiet. In fact, he has not barked once in his foster home! Duffy is an under-the-radar guy—his gentle tail-wagging ways will win your heart and loyalty. He is easy to walk on a leash and doesn’t react to other people, kids, and dogs he sees on the street.
Duffy is up-to-date on his shots, has been neutered, has had a dental cleaning, and is microchipped. He was not housebroken when he entered fostering, but quickly got the flick of what “outside” means and has not recently made a mistake in the house. He is also crate-trained. This sweet boy is ready to be your best companion ever.
Duffy was adopted on January 28, 2012 by a retired couple in San Jose.

Murphy is a happy, friendly little guy who is looking for a home where he will be loved and can give as much love in return.
Murphy is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vaccinations.
Murphy was adopted on January 27, 2012. He is now living with his new family in Modesto, which includes a Miniature Poodle and a cat.
Jack
Jack is a purebred male salt and pepper Miniature Schnauzer who is 8–9 years old. Jack needed a new home because his 94 year old owner was moving to an assisted living home.
Jack is a pleasant and intelligent dog, who obeys his owner’s commands. He has been an only dog but does not seem to be overly concerned about other dogs when he is on his walks. On the other hand, he doesn't care much for cats. Jack is a good watch dog. He will bark when someone comes up on the porch, but he never bothers them when they come in the house or he is let out to meet them.
Jack was somewhat overweight because his owner had been spoiling him with everything from yams to eggs.
Jack appears to be in good health. He is neutered, up-to-date on shots, and housebroken.
Jack was adopted in December 2011 by a retired lady in Lafayette.

Brocky

Brocky is a purebred male salt & pepper Miniature Schnauzer. We rescued him from the Fairfield shelter. Brocky is 3 1/2 years old.
Brocky is very cute as can be seen from his photos. He has natural ears and a natural tail, too.
Brocky gets along well with the 10 year old female Miniature Schnauzer mix in his foster home. He is not food or toy aggressive. Brocky does not bark often, but will let his foster mom know if someone is at the door. Brocky is playful, and needs a little training to walk on lead. He is smart and very willing to please. He enjoys being the center of attention. Brocky was somewhat timid when meeting new people when we first got him, but less so now that he has settled down a bit in his foster home. He will make someone a very nice pet.
Brocky has learned to use the doggie door and seems to be housebroken. He is crate-trained.
Brocky is neutered, micro-chipped, up to date on vaccinations, heartworm negative, and on heartworm preventative medication.
Brocky was adopted on January 18, 2012 by a family from San Carlos.
Charlotte

Charlotte is a black Miniature Schnauzer, about 8 years old, who is blind in both eyes. ResQpaws rescued her from the Sutter County shelter and we did a courtesy listing for her.
Charlotte had been in her foster home since mid-November. She is very calm and quiet. She got along well with the 2 terriers in her foster home and wanted to play with them. Unfortunately, they wanted nothing to do with her!
Charlotte loves to go for walks and is great on a leash. She loves to snuggle. She is a total sweetheart who just wants someone to love her and pay attention to her.
Charlotte has done well with potty training during the day and will do her business outside if let out on a regular basis. She should be crated or penned up at night so there are no accidents. She comes when called and loves to follow her foster mom around the house. She quickly learned the layout of her foster home. This girl doesn't let her blindness stop her!
Charlotte was adopted on January 14, 2011. We do not know if listing her on this website helped find her new home or not, but we think it is GREAT that a family was willing to adopt an older blind Schnauzer and we wish them and Charlotte many happy years together. And special thanks to ResQpaws for helping this super cute little Schnauzer.

Teddy is a purebred male black & silver Miniature Schnauzer. Teddy was one of 5 puppies and 5 adults surrendered to us by a breeder who was no longer able to keep them. Teddy is about 1-1/2 years old.

Hannah's von Trapp PUPPIES!!!
We named Hannah's six puppies, 3 boys and 3 girls, after the von Trapp children in the Sound of Music. All are as cute and affectionate as puppies can be.
Mom is purebred Miniature Schnauzer Hannah, who turned out to be pregnant when we rescued her from the Devore shelter a day before she would have been euthanized. Hannah had a urinary tract infection when we adopted her. When we took her to the vet, he said she was pregnant and he advised against trying to spay her then.
The puppies were 11 weeks old as of December 8. Here are the five who have been adopted:
Luis—the lightest colored puppy.
Luis looks something like a miniature Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier.
Luis was adopted by a family in Glendale on December 20, 2011.
Gretl—the smallest female puppy.
We think Gretl will probably look much like a small purebred Miniature Schnauzer when she matures.
Gretl was adopted on December 20, 2011 by a family from Temple City.
Marta—one of the two black girls.
We think Marta will probably look much like a purebred black Miniature Schnauzer when she matures.

The Beatles puppies were about 8 weeks old as of January 1, 2012.
The Beatles puppies have exceptionally nice conformation. In fact, they are the prettiest puppies we have ever had in our rescue.
All 4 of the Beatles are in good health and have had their first puppy shots. All 4 are friendly and outgoing. Paul is still available for adoption.
John—a salt & pepper puppy, was adopted on January 8, 2012, by a family from La Crescenta, who also adopted Ringo.

Louie was adopted by a family from Palm Desert on December 31, 2011. Happy New Year, Louie!
Clyde
Clyde is not your typical Chihuahua. He is 8 lbs of love, packed into one very cute little body. Clyde is about 1-1/2 years old.
Clyde gets along well with other dogs. He loves people, even strangers. Clyde wags his tail so much and so vigorously, it is a miracle it does not fall off. And, unlike most Chihuahuas, Clyde does not bark much. In short, Clyde is a great Miniature Schnauzer trapped in a Chihuahua body. He is perfect for someone looking for a small Miniature Schnauzer who does not need grooming.
Clyde appears to be in good health. He is neutered and up to date on vaccinations.
Clyde was adopted on December 26, 2011 by a retired gentleman from Arnold. HAPPY NEW YEAR, Clyde!
Lilly
Here is lovely Lilly, a purebred white Miniature Schnauzer, who is 5 years old. The family who had raised her from three months old surrendered her to us because they were no longer able to care for her.
Lilly is sweet natured and very quiet. Her favorite activities are retrieving balls, sunbathing and snuggling on her human's lap. Her little tail wags constantly whenever you give her your attention, and she is eager to please.
Lilly grew up around young children and another canine, and relates well to the three other dogs in her foster home, not needing to be the alpha dog. Neither is she possessive of her ball or other toys. She is trained to walk on leash, and is not the least bit distracted by other dogs being walked or humans passing by. This little girl is reliably housebroken, and quickly learned to use the doggie door in her foster home so she could enjoy the backyard.

Splinter loves children and other dogs. She is easy going but full of energy.
Splinter was adopted by a family in Saratoga on December 18, 2011.
Treffen
Treffen is a purebred salt & pepper Miniature Schnauzer, who appears to be about 5–6 years old. We rescued him from the Stanislaus Animal Services shelter in Modesto. Treffen weighs 16 lbs. and could stand to gain a few more pounds.
Treffen seems to be a happy, easy going dog who has been cared for. He is very sweet and appreciates attention, but is willing to share attention, too. He is a little shy meeting new people, but warms up to them once he gets to know them. He gets along well with the female Schnauzer-mix in his foster home and curls up with her in the doggie bed.
Treffen is well behaved on a leash and he doesn't mind being brushed. Treffen is a quick study. He was not accustomed to a doggie door, but learned how to use one within a day. He appears to be house broken—there have been no accidents in the house. He is also obedient. He jumped down when given the “no“' and “off” commands after jumping up on the loveseat.

Ginger been tolerant of the young children in her current home, but her owners feel she might do best in a home with older children or adults. She can be timid around new people and doesn't like to be picked up by someone she doesn't know. She will need more work on leash training and socialization.
Ginger is smart and quick to catch on to new activities. When she wants outside, she will tap her paw on the shutters to let her owners know she wants out. She is affectionate and loves closeness and pampering. She loves balls and dog toys. Here is a short video of Ginger: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=41TdP3_ABeA

Ringo
Ringo is a 7 year old neutered male Miniature Schnauzer. Ringo's owner suddenly could not care for Ringo any longer due to economic misfortune. His foster mom took Ringo in but needed to place him quickly because she fosters pit bulls and having a Miniature Schnauzer in the same house as pit bulls is not easy.
Ringo is a nice dog. He is independent and intelligent. He prefers the company of adults over small children. Ringo gets along with other dogs and with cats and, unusually, prefers the cats. Ringo loves to play with toys and to play fetch. See him in action in his very own video: http://youtu.be/WGZmOUsARC0

Wesley has had some leash training but needs more. His owners feel he would do best in a home without toddlers, though he should be okay with children age 6 and above. He might be happiest as an only dog.
Wesley has a sweet, loving personality and usually warms up to new people in the house in a short while. His current owners say he is a “teddy bear,” loyal and affectionate, always at your heels. Here is a short video of Wesley: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6sHsU1qufF0&feature=email

Molly was owned since she was a puppy by a British couple who were living in the U.S. Recently, the husband lost his job, and thus also his U.S. visa. The couple had to return to the UK on short notice and were unable to take Molly because they do not have a home or job there yet.
Molly is friendly and gets along well with other dogs. She is well-behaved and understands several commands. She is a bit timid with strangers but warms up to them quickly. Pops is a purebred black and silver male Miniature Schnauzer, who is about 5–7 years old. Pops is being surrendered by his owner, who adopted him from a shelter 3 years ago, because she started working full-time a few months ago and is unable to spend much time with him.
Pops is a very happy dog. He LOVES to play fetch. He'll go find a ball, bring it to you, drop it in front of you, and then wait until you notice it. His little tail is always wagging.
Pops loves to snuggle next to his owner. He loves to sleep with people but will also sleep in a dog bed. Pops is good with kids and other dogs but likes to chase cats. When he is really excited and playful, he runs through the house almost like a little rocking horse. It's hilarious.
Pops is completely house-trained. He understands “stay,” “sit,” “come,” “no,” “house,” “out,” “get-in-bed,” “shake,” “dance,” and “dinner-time.”
Pops is healthy, neutered, and will be up-to-date on vaccinations before adoption.
Pops was adopted on Veteran's Day 2011 by a retired lady in Hilmar, whose prior Schnauzer had passed away a few months ago.

Cookie is about 1 year old. She appears to be a mix between a Miniature Schnauzer and a toy breed. She's small—probably less than 10 lbs.

Tizzy has a super extroverted personality. She loves everyone. Tizzy gets along well with other dogs. She has shared a run with several others dogs in her foster home—she’s currently rooming with Lonnie who is pictured below on this page—and has played nicely with all of them.
Tizzy stands perfectly on the table during grooming, so she must have been groomed regularly at one time.
Tizzy apppears to be in good health but has some of the signs of an older Schnauzer. She has a lump on her chest and one on her side. Tizzy has a few teeth missing and needs a teeth cleaning since she has tartar on her teeth, but none of that affects her great appetite and upbeat personality! Tizzy is up-to-date on vaccinations, spayed, and microchipped.
Cookie and Tizzy were adopted together on Veteran's Day 2011. They will be companions to a family in Highland.
Kaiser
Kaiser is a 9 month old salt and pepper Miniature Schnauzer puppy. He was an owner surrender to us.
Kaiser is a sweetie. He loves everyone and loves to play with people and with other dogs.
Kaiser appears to be in good health. He is neutered, and up to date on his vaccinations. He is ready and eager for a new home.
Kaiser was adopted on November 1, 2011 by a couple in Conejo whose pair of Lhasa Apsos had passed away of old age earlier in the year.
Chauncey
Chauncey is a male purebred salt and pepper Miniature Schnauzer, who is about 1 1/2 years old. He was an owner surrender from an older lady who could no longer keep him.
Chauncey is a small guy, probably about 12 lbs.
Chauncey is a very friendly, very outgoing little guy. He is good with kids and with other dogs. We have not had him around cats yet.
Chauncey i in good health. He is neutered, and up-to-date on vaccinations.
Chauncey went to his new home in Highlands (near Sacramento) on October 30, 2011. Joining a family with 3 children, Chauncey will have plenty of playmates.
Raquel
Raquel is a very pretty girl. She looks like she might be a Schnauzer/Skye mix. We rescued Raquel from the L.A. County Baldwin Park shelter, where she was absolutely terrified. (It is a scary place.) However, as frightened as she was, Raquel did not growl or snap even once.
This lousy photo of Raquel is the one from the shelter. We hope to get a better photo soon.
Raquel is only about 1 year old. She's between 20 and 25 lbs.
Raquel loves people and gets along well with other dogs. We have not had her around young children or cats yet.
Raquel is spayed, microchipped and up-to-date on vaccinations.
Raquel went to her new home in Long Beach on October 30, 2011.
Bentley
Bentley is a white male Miniature Schnauzer, about 4–5 years old, who is being fostered in Three Rivers (about 25 miles east of Visalia). Bentley weighs 22 lbs and is 15 1/2 " at the withers. Bentley has a rather long body, so he may not be a purebred.
Bentley's foster mom agreed to foster Bentley after Bentley's owner lost his job and was unable to care for Bentley. We did a courtesy listing for Bentley.
Bentley is a delightful boy with an easy going temperament. He comes when called, and gets along with everyone, including children, old folks, and dogs. He lets out squeal of excitement when he sees other animals. The Bichons at his foster home are his best friends. He loves to play tug of war with one of them.
Bentley is neutered and microchipped. He appears to be in good health. He had sores all over his back side when he came to his foster home, as a result of allergy to flea saliva. He is currently on Trifexis to keep the fleas away. His sores are all gone and his white hair is growing in nicely. NO MORE ITCHING!
Bentley was adopted and went to his new home in Santa Clara on October 28, 2011. His adopter found Bentley on our website. Bentley joins a female Westie named Lola.
Jazz
Jazz is a 2-year-old salt and pepper male purebred Miniature Schnauzer.
Jazz was found wandering in the Bayview district of San Francisco in mid-August. San Francisco Animal Control Center neutered Jazz, gave him all of his shots, and microchipped him. Jazz has been in a foster home in San Francisco for the last 7 weeks with two other Miniature Schnauzers.
Jazz is as lively and energetic as his name implies, and very affectionate. He plays well with a younger Schnauzer in his foster home.
Jazz has adjusted well to his foster situation and seems very much at home. A BIG plus: he is housebroken. However, like many of our rescue Schnauzers, Jazz is a runner and will try to leave a back yard if he sees a break, or escape if he is let out without a leash. Like some young Schnauzers, he is also “mouthy” and needs more socialization and training so that he doesn’t nibble fingers or jump up on people who do not like that sort of thing.
Jazz was adopted in late October 2011, and is now living happily in San Francisco.
Daisy
Daisy is a 10 lb, 2 year old female Miniature Schnauzer. Daisy is very sweet and loves her family, but does not like strangers. Her dislike of strangers has become a problem in her home with young children, who often have friends over. Her present owner believes Daisy would be best in a home with retired people, or someone who works out of the house, and wants a great companion.
Daisy is housebroken, good on a leash, and crate-trained. She loves to play, especially with her ball! She is easy to bathe and groom.
Daisy loves to travel. She is fine out in public so long as a stranger doesn't reach out to her. She does bark at home when someone comes in the house, but she is very quiet out in public.
Daisy is spayed and up to date with vaccinations.
Daisy was adopted on October 21 2011, by a couple in Modesto.
Reggie
Reggie is a black Miniature Schnauzer, or perhaps he is a Miniature Schnauzer / Miniature Dachshund mix. He has the head and coat of a Miniature Schnauzer, and his tail is docked, but his body looks a lot like that of a Miniature Dachshund. Whatever his genetics, Reggie is very cute and super friendly. We rescued him from the Van Nuys shelter when we were told he was in danger of being euthanized because they are so overcrowded.
Reggie is about 4 years old. He weighs about 12 lbs. He is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vaccinations.
Reggie is a lot of love in a small package. He loves everyone. He gets along well with other dogs and with cats. We have not had him around small children, but we are pretty confident he would like them if they are quiet and don’t frighten him.
Reggie was adopted on October 21, 2011, by a gentleman from Sonoma, who will be able to take Reggie to work with him.
Misha
Misha is a 6-month old Schnauzer mix puppy, who came to us from the Lancaster shelter. We very rarely see Schnauzer or Schnauzer mix puppies this young come into rescue, so this is a rare opportunity to adopt one. At 6 months old, Misha is still very much a puppy, but just old enough for her true personality to have emerged.
Misha is a little shy at first meeting, but really wants to play, so she warms up quickly to new people and new dogs. Misha is quiet and very affectionate. One of the photos shows her looking sad shortly after arriving at her foster home. The other shows her looking much happier after she played with some of the other dogs at her foster home.
Misha is in good health, up-to-date on vaccinations, spayed, and microchipped.
Misha was adopted by a couple in the Sonora area who are home much of the time and excited about having Misha join their family. Misha went to her new home on October 19, 2011.
Annie
Annie is a slender black Miniature Schnauzer with a single sweet spot of white on her chest. She was a stray found in downtown San Jose. The San Jose Animal Care Center rescued Annie and gave her needed medical care.
Annie is about 5-6 years old and has had a number of litters.
Annie is friendly with other dogs, tolerates cats well, and is very affectionate with people. We think she will fit well into almost any household. Her specialty is soft nose kisses delivered with abandon. She walks well on a leash and doesn't pull as long as she's not given the full leash length to explore.
Annie has been spayed, is up to date on all her shots, and has had her teeth cleaned. She has recovered well from removal of a large bladder stone and a severe urinary infection.
Annie went to a loving home in Fremont on October 19, 2011 where her companion will be a Maine Coon cat named Stewie.
Sadie
Sadie is a purebred black female Miniature Schnauzer puppy, less than 1 year old. Sadie is “all-natural” with uncropped ears and undocked tail. We rescued this wonderful puppy from Lancaster shelter the day before she was scheduled to be euthanized.
Sadie is a tiny girl, only about 8 pounds. She is super affectionate and loves to play. Sadie is currently rooming with our Chihuahua, Clyde, who is very much enjoying her company.
Sadie appears to be in good health. She is spayed, microchipped and up to date on vaccinations.
Sadie was adopted on October 15, 2011. We hope she enjoys her new home in Moreno Valley.
Sean
Sean is a 4-5 month old black Miniature Schnauzer puppy, who we rescued from the Los Angeles shelter in Van Nuys on September 27.
We are not sure whether Sean is a purebred since he is somewhat long and low but, as is obvious from his photo, Sean is really cute. AND, Sean is a really friendly extrovert, who loves to play. His tail is constantly wagging. He loves people and other dogs, and likely kids and cats too.
Sean is in good health. He is neutered, microchipped, and right up to date on his vaccinations. He is ready and eager for a new home with someone who needs a puppy to play with.
Sean went to his new home in Sonora on October 15, 2011. His new owners are one lucky family!
Daphne
Daphne is a 1 1/2 to 2 year old Miniature Schnauzer mix. We are not sure what she is mixed with, but she is really cute and a bundle of fun. She weighs about 12 lbs. We got Daphne from the Baldwin Park shelter the day before she was scheduled to be euthanized.
Daphne loves everybody. She enjoys other dogs and children. We haven’t had her around cats yet, but we expect she would want to play with them too. She appears to be housebroken.
Daphne appears to be in good health. She is spayed, microchipped and up to date on her vaccinations.
Daphne went to her new home in Stockton on October 15, 2011.
Teddy
Teddy is a black Miniature Schnauzer, from the Lancaster shelter. He looks to us to be about 1 to 1 1/2 years old. Teddy is housebroken, neutered, up-to-date on vaccinations, and has just had his teeth cleaned.
Teddy is a small guy, probably about 12 lbs. Teddy gets along well with the rest of the dogs at his foster home and is gentle enough to be allowed to play with some young puppies. Teddy is very sweet and loves to cuddle.
Our rescue dogs are so cute that our foster homes often decide to keep them. That’s what happened to Teddy. Joyce Nagel's husband, Roger, became so fond of Teddy that he told Joyce “we are keeping him.”
Carl
Carl is a purebred white male Miniature Schnauzer. puppy, We estimate Carl to be about 3 years old. We rescued Carl from the Ventura County shelter in Camarillo on September 30. Thanks very much to Camarillo Animal Rescue League for pulling Carl for us.
Carl appears to be in good health. Carl is neutered, microchipped, and right up to date on his vaccinations.
Carl was adopted on October 6, 2011 by a family from Henderson, Nevada.
Rocco
Rocco is a purebred salt & pepper male Miniature Schnauzer, who is about 4 years old. Rocco needed a new home because his owners had divorced and no longer had enough time to care for him.
Rocco is very affectionate and loves to play. He gets along well with children and with other dogs.
Rocco is in good health. He is housebroken, neutered and up to date on vaccinations. Rocco had surgery for bladder stones a couple of years ago and is being fed Hills C/D. There has been no return of the stones to date.
Rocco was adopted on October 5, 2011 by a family in Danville, who have a grown son also named Rocco.
Rizzo
Rizzo is a purebred salt and pepper Miniature Schnauzer He is 5 1/2 years old. His owner is heartbroken about having to give up Rizzo but does not have enough time to spend with him.
Rizzo is somewhat standoffish at first, but is a very sweet, affectionate loving little guy once you get to know him and once he gets to know you. Rizzo is not well socialized but gets along with other animals once he has had a little while to warm up to them. We think he would be fine with older children, but might not be good with very young ones. Rizzo is housebroken and responds to basic commands such as Come, Stand, Sit, Stay, etc.
Rizzo has been neutered. He is microchipped, is current on all vaccinations, and is in very good health. He has healthy teeth too.
Rizzo went to his new home in Eldorado Hills on September 30, 2011. He has been adopted by a couple with a bird and a cat.
Murray
We thought that Murray was a Miniature Schnauzer mix. However, a Petit Brussels Griffon Vendeen breeder who looked at photos of Murray is almost certain that he is a purebred PBGV. We do know that Murray is a great dog. He and Duke (who was adopted on October 1, 2011) were surrendered together to the Barstow shelter, We couldn't let them die there, so we saved them both.
Murray is about 4 years old. He is effusively friendly with people and loves playing other dogs. In fact, Murray is so social that he suffers from separation anxiety if left alone. He needs to be in a home with another dog who he can play with and with humans who are home much of the time. (We are told that few PBGVs are happy as an only dog.)
Murray is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vaccinations. He appears to be in good health.
Murray got adopted only 3 days after his buddy, Duke. He will be living on a ranch at Table Mountain with a couple who has 3 other dogs. Yeah, Murray!
Duke
Duke is a small Standard Schnauzer. He is a very friendly guy. He and Murray (who is still available for adoption) were surrendered together to the Barstow shelter. We couldn't let them die there, so we saved them both.
Duke is about 7 years old. He is very friendly with people and gets along well with other dogs.
Duke is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vaccinations. He appears to be in good health. One photo was taken before we had a chance to groom Duke, and the other after our Joyce and Darcel did their magic.
Duke was adopted on October 1, 2011 by a couple from Fresno.
Ezmeralda (“Ezzy”)
Esmeralda (Ezzy to her friends) is a purebred female Miniature Schnauzer, who is about 4 years old.
Ezzy is affectionate, gets along with other dogs, and likes children. Ezzy's one behavior problem is that she has become very protective of her owner and the owner's daughter and barks whenever someone else comes near them. (She is much quieter when they are not around.)
Ezzy would probably do better in a quieter home with someone who has more time to devote to her than does her present owner, a mother with 3 children, 2 dogs, and a myriad of other pets. She would make a great companion to someone who has the time, patience and devotion Ezzy needs.
Ezzy is in good health, housebroken, neutered, and current on vaccinations.
Ezzy was adopted by a couple in Reno on September 19, 2011. Her adopters tell us that Ezzy is doing well in her new home.

Toby
Toby is a 6 year old purebred male Miniature Schnauzer. He has grown up with 5 year old Sami, who also needed a new home.
Toby is very loving and was raised around kids. He loves to cuddle with you, go on walks, play with his stuffed animals and he is crate trained.
Toby is very protective of his family and his buddy Sami. He is a dominant male and would likely not like living with another male dog. Toby is wary of strangers and does not do well around very young children because he does not like excessive running or loud noises.
Toby is in good health, housebroken, neutered, and current on vaccinations.
Toby and Sami were adopted by a CHP Officer in the Sacramento area on September 22, 2011.
Sami
Sami is a purebred 5 year old female Miniature Schnauzer. She has grown up with 6 year old Toby, who also needed a new home.
Sami is very sweet, loving, playful and docile She loves to go on walks too and is crate trained.
Sami is is in good health. She is spayed, and up to date on her vaccinations.
Toby and Sami were adopted by a CHP Officer in the Sacramento area on September 22, 2011.
Frankie
Frankie is a black & silver Miniature Schnauzer. He is about 1 1/2 to 2 years old. Frankie is very cute and has a great personality, but he is probably not a purebred since he has a long body and is closer to the ground than are most Miniature Schnauzers. Frankie came to us from the Lancaster shelter.
Frankie appears to be in good health. He is neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccinations.
Frankie is very friendly. He loves to play, and gets along well with the other dogs at his foster home. We have not had him around small children, but he loves everyone and should be fine with children so long as they are gentle with him.
Frankie was adopted on September 20, 2011 by a couple in Pasadena.
Tina
Gorgeous Tina is a purebred female salt & pepper Miniature Schnauzer. She is about 2 to 3 years old. We rescued Tina from the Lancaster shelter the day before she was scheduled to be euthanized.
Tina has cropped ears and a docked tail.
Tina is very affectionate and loves to play. She gets along well with other dogs and with cats.
Tina appears to be in good health. She is spayed, microchipped and up to date on vaccinations.
Tina went to her new home in Placentia on September 18, 2011 with a retired couple who have owned Schnauzers for many years.
Annabelle
Annabelle is a petite, purebred salt & pepper Miniature Schnauzer. She is 6 years old and weighs 13 pounds.
Annabelle sleeps quietly in her bed all night and is reliably house broken. She comes when called and knows basic commands such as “sit” and “lie down.” Annabelle is a very good traveler, calmly resting in her bed when on the road. She walks on the leash quite nicely, but will pull on the leash and bark when she sees another dog.
Annabelle gets along with the three dogs in her foster home, but she would probably be happiest as an only dog since she is possessive about her foster mom's attention. She is well behaved in groups of people and other dogs. However, young children seem to frighten Annabelle. and we do not know how she relates to cats.
Annabelle is is in good health. She is spayed, up to date on her vaccinations, microchipped, and has sparkling white teeth.
Annabelle was adopted on November 17, 2011 by a couple from Browns Valley, California, who live on a five acre ranch. Their family includes a ten year old mixed lab who is a gentle giant and who lost his sister earlier this year. He and Annabelle took an immediate liking to each other, and the couple's grandmother has a Mini Schnauzer who is eagerly waiting to meet his new kin. There was joy all around as Annabelle was welcomed into her new family.
Beaujolais (“Boo”)
Beaujolais, Boo for short, is a purebred female Miniature Schnauzer, who is about 1 year old. Boo was an owner surrender because Boo and the owner's Westie were not getting along.
Boo loves people and is great with kids. Her prior owner says she needs to be an only dog, but so far she is getting along well with other dogs at her foster home.
Boo appears to be in good health. She is housebroken, spayed and up to date on vaccinations.
Boo was adopted on September 7, 2011, by a lady in Long Beach who lost her last Schnauzer a few months ago.
Winston
Winston is a 7 year old, 19 pound, male purebred Miniature Schnauzer, who we rescued from the Rancho Cucamonga shelter.
Winston loves people, children, and other dogs. When we first got him, Winston wanted to be the boss when with other male dogs, but he is getting along well with other male dogs now. Winston is a bit nervous about picked up and will snap if someone approaches him quickly. He has never bitten, however, to our knowledge.
Winston is good to go. He is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on shots.
Winston was adopted on September 6, 2011 by a retired engineer in Irvine who has owned Schnauzers before. He and Winston became instant friends as soon as they saw each other.
Chloe
Chloe is not a Schnauzer—not even close. She looks like she might be a Papillon-Dachshund mix. Whatever her heritage, Chloe is very cute, and a real love. Mike, who worked for Joyce Nagel at her kennels in Palmdale, found Chloe running loose on the street and was been fostering her until he moved to Arizona.
Chloe is probably less than a year old. She is very friendly and gets along well with other dogs. She seems to love everyone she meets.
Chloe appears to be in good health. She is up to date on vaccinations. Chloe is not yet spayed, but that will be done before she goes to her new home.
We moved Chloe to Sonora where she was quickly adopted—in time to spend Labor Day 2011 in her new home.
Max
Max is a 7 1/2 year old neutered black and silver male Miniature Schnauzer. He's house-trained and very clean. Unlike many Schnauzers, Max enjoys being groomed.
Max is very sociable and does well with children over 6, who are respectful of animals. Max is friendly with strangers in the house.
Max does not like being left alone or being crated. He doesn't chew or destroy anything when left alone, but he often barks a lot, which can disturb neighbors.
Max loves going for walks. However, he will bark at other dogs, and will chase wildlife if given the opportunity. He is exciteable around people on wheeled objects, such as bikes, skateboards, etc. Max thus needs to be kept on lead when outdoors, and needs a harness because he pulls so much he can hurt his neck.
Max responds to his name, sit, stay, wait, lay down, come, come here, no, okay, go, and let’s go, run, treat, and down. (However, he does not come if called when off leash outside because of distractions.)
Max is housebroken, in excellent health, up to date on vaccinations, and his vet says he is youthful for his age.
Max didn't have to go far to get adopted. After fostering him for a while, the daughter of Max's former owner decided to adopt him.

Ricky
Ricky is a purebred salt & pepper Miniature Schnauzer. He is about 1 year old. He came to us from the Long Beach shelter, via a Long Beach rescue group which kindly got him cleaned up and neutered before bringing him to us. (We told them not to groom him since he is being fostered by Carol Hansen, one of the best Schanuzer groomers in California.) Ricky will look great once Carol does her magic on him. (We will post a new photo once he is groomed up.)
Ricky has a great disposition, gets along with other dogs and loves everyone.
Ricky is neutered and up to date on vaccinations.
Ricky went to his new home in Capitola on August 27, 2011, where he joins Duchess, a 4 year old female Yorkie/Miniature Schnauzer.
Buzz
Buzz is a 1 year old male black Miniature Schnauzer, who came to us from the Solano County shelter in Fairfield. He was surrendered because his owners could not spend much time with him and he was getting very lonely.
Buzz is playful and has a fun loving personality. He enjoys playing ball and will bring it back to you—most of the time. He enjoye the company of the other dogs at his foster home, but would probably also be fine as an only dog with a family who will let him be inside with them, rather than stuff out in the yard by himself. Buzz likes to be in the same room with you but is not clingy. So far, he does not jump up on the furniture or onto laps. He seems content to be near you but not demanding attention all the time. We do not yet know if Buzz would be good with toddlers but he should be fine with older kids.
Buzz isn't yet completely housebroken but is learning quickly at his foster home. His foster mom says “He should get the hang of things pretty quickly.” He appears to be in good health, and is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vaccinations.
Buzz was adopted on August 16, 2011 by a couple with another Schnauzer. His adopters renamed Buzz as Bailey.
Rosie
Rosie is a 3 year old white Miniature Schnauzer. She was rescued by the San Francisco Bay Area Westie rescue group, who thought she was a Westie mix before they got Rosie groomed and could see what was underneath all the hair. When they uncovered a Schnauzer, they asked us to help find her a home by listing her on our website. Of course we were happy to oblige.
Rosie is about 3 years old. She is very friendly and affectionate. She gets along well with other dogs, including the Westies in her foster home. Her teeth are in good condition.
Rosie is housebroken and is learning to use a dog door at her foster home. She walks well on a lead. The one bad habit of this otherwise perfect dog is that she will sneak out the door if given the opportunity.
Rosie appears to be in good health, will be spayed before placement, and is up to date on vaccinations.
In early August 2011, Rosie went to her new home in Napa, where she is an only dog and the cherished companion of her adopter, a lady in her 60s, who found her on this website..
Lucas
Lucas (or Luke) is a real cutie. He is still very much a puppy. He was 1 year old in April.
Lucas is a little guy, only 13 to 14 pounds. He’s had a buzz cut. Once that has grown out, Lucas will be one gorgeous Miniature Schnauzer.
Lucas is already neutered, microchipped and up to date on his vaccinations. He just recently passed his heartworm test and has started the preventative.
Lucas is not cat aggressive but, like most terriers, will chase them if they want to race. He gets along just great with other dogs—doesn’t seem to have any dominance or food issues. He’s house trained and is comfortable with pet doors. He’s a playful puppy, but mature enough to listen and respond to basic commands. He knows “sit” and “stay” and comes when called while off the leash at the dog park.
Lucas needs a home with no toddlers. He was surrendered to us for rehoming was because of a biting incident with a 2-year-old. (The owner told us that she had a spike training collar on Lucas and believes that the toddler grabbed Lucas by the collar, hurting him.) Lucas should be fine with older children, but we don’t want to take any chances with toddlers. Lucas just needs another chance to prove that he’s really a good boy. He is affectionate and loving, without showing possessiveness. He sings and gives kisses as soon as you get home, even if you have only been gone for a couple of hours. If you’re looking for a cuddly lap dog, Lucas would be the perfect fit.
Lucas was adopted in early August 2011 by a family in Valley Springs who have a Boxer named Hans. Hans and Lucas are quickly becoming good friends.
Hank (renamed Parker by his adopters)
We got Hank from the Baldwin Park shelter the day before he was scheduled to be euthanized.
Hank is a male black and silver Miniature Schnauzer, who is about 2 years old. We are not positive if he is purebred. His head is all Schnauzer, but his body is kind of long for a Schnauzer. Hank is all natural, with uncropped ears and undocked tail.
Hank is friendly with people and with other dogs. We have not had him around young children or cats, so we do not know how he feels about them.
Hank appears to be in good health. He is neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccinations.
Hank went to his new home on August 7, 2011. He was adopted by a couple in San Dimas.
Holly (formerly Nellie)
We rescued Nellie from the shelter in Devore, CA on July 19, just as she was about to be euthanized.
We thought that Nellie was a Schnoodle (a Schnauzer/Poodle mix), but when Joyce Nagel started to groom her, lo and behold, there was a gorgeous purebred white Miniature Schnauzer under all that hair! One of Joyce's client’s, seeing Nellie with her white coat and a green collar, said she was reminded of holly at Christmas. And so, Nellie became Holly.
The photo on the left is of Holly. The one on the right is the one the shelter had posted for Nellie. What a difference!
Holly is about 3 years old and loves everyone. She gets along well with other dogs. We have not had her around cats or small children, so we do not know for sure if she would like them too.
Holly appears to be in good health. She’s spayed, microchipped, and up to date on vaccinations.
Holly was adopted on August 5, 2011 by a family from Valencia.
Bitzy
We picked Bitzy up from the Chico Humane Society. We think she is about 5 years old.
Bitzy is a quiet, sweet natured girl. She enjoys the companionship of other dogs and snuggling on a human’s warm lap. She prefers women, being a bit timid around men. We do not know how Bitzy responds to children, but think she would do best with a retired woman or couple.
Bitzy comes when she is called. She is being leash trained and is working on learning other commands.
Bitzy has a good appetite and thus is a bit overweight. However, her foster mom has been working on getting off a pound or two off Bitzy before she is adopted.
Bitzy appears to be in good health. She has been spayed and is up to date on all of her vaccinations.
Bitzy cannot tell us about her former life, but the gratitude and love reflected in her eyes says it all.
Bitzy was adopted on August 1, 2011 by a retired lady in Auburn who has a Chinese Crested and a cat to keep Bitzy company.
Smokey and the Bear
OK. We don't have Smokey, but the Bear is awfully cute. Bear is a male salt & peppper Miniature Schnauzer, who is about 5 years old.
Bear was rescued about 4 years ago by his present owner who saw him on the streets eating from garbage cans. Unfortunately, changed financial circumstances and 2 toddlers have forced his present owner to find a new home for Bear.
Bear is well housebroken and clean. He does not chew or destroy anything lying around the house. And, miracle of miracles, he enjoys being groomed!
Bear is friendly with everyone and absolutely loves children. Bear walks well on a leash, but will bolt if given the chance, particularly if a cat is in sight.
Bear went to his new home on July 31, 2011.
Mr. T (now Ty)
Mr. T proves that good things come in small packages. Mr. T is only about 10 lbs, but he is definitely part of the “A Team.” Mr. T came to us from the shelter in Hesperia.
Mr. T is a purebred salt & pepper Miniature Schnauzer. We believe he is about 4 years old.
Mr. T is friendly and likes other dogs. We have not had him around cats or young children yet.
Mr. T appears to be good health. He is neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccinations.
Mr. T went to his new home in Simi Valley on July 31, 2011, where he was renamed Ty and joined Lucy, who was adopted from us on May 27, 2011. Lucy is even smaller than Ty. They have become close friends and Ty has helped Lucy become less timid and more outgoing.

Schatze
Schatze is a salt & pepper female Miniature Schnauzer, with a great smile, who is about one year old. Schatze was found running loose in Las Vegas by a dog lover who lives in Fresno. She listed Schatze with the Las Vegas shelter and no-one has claimed Schatze; and there is nothing more we can do to find Schatze’s prior owner since Schatze is not microchipped.
Schatze is super-friendly with people and gets along well with other dogs. In fact, she was delighted when we put a new rescue in with her and she had someone to play with. We have also found that Schatze is not food aggressive. We haven't had Schatze around cats yet, so we don't know how she is with them.
Schatze is housebroken and knows how to use a dog door. Schatze, however, is still very puppyish. She would benefit from a beginning obedience class and some practice walking on a lead.
Schatze is in good health and has sparkling white teeth. We had her spayed, and brought up to date on vaccinations.
Schatze was adopted on July 30, 2011 by a couple from Monterey who own a male Schnauzer named Andy.
Yuba Buddy (now named “Benjamin” or “Bennie”)
Buddy is an 8 lb. salt & pepper male Miniature Schnauzer who came to us after his owner passed away and the family decided they couldn’t keep him. The owner's family thought he was about 2 years old, which seems reasonable based on his appearance.
Buddy is a sweet little guy who gets along well with everyone. He loves children and has never met a stranger he did not like. He is the perfect little lap Buddy. Buddy is not a barker, but he will vocalize when he needs to go out or is hungry. He is house broken, knows how to use a dog door and is crate trained for sleeping. We’re sure though that he would prefer sleeping with somebody. Buddy had not been introduced to a leash when we got him, but he is learning quickly.
Buddy appears to be in good health. He is up to date on vaccinations and neutered. His teeth are sparkling clean because we had them cleaned while he was being neutered. Just a cutie.
Buddy was adopted on July 27, 2011. He was last seen riding off to his new home in Citrus Heights in a brand new Mercedes.
Toby
Toby is a very small purebred male Miniature Schnauzer puppy, chocolate in color. Toby was born on August 31, 2010. He weighed a little under 10 lbs. at 9 months. His parents both weigh about 9 1/2 lbs.
Toby is very friendly. He likes children and other animals. His present owner is giving Toby up because her present circumstances do not allow her to give him enough attention.
Toby has a heart murmur, which has been characterized as moderate to severe, but is otherwise in good health. The murmur is not causing Toby any problems at present, but could result in problems down the road—or not. Toby is neutered, and up-to-date on vaccinations.
Toby went to a great new home on July 24, 2011. Toby was adopted by a couple in Citrus Heights. Toby’s job is to help them recover from the loss in April of their beloved 13 year old schnauzer, who also had a heart murmur.
Reggie and Rudy
We rescued Reggie and Rudy from a Northern California shelter in late May after a backyard breeder had surrendered the young litter-mates. We placed them together in a temporary foster home.
Both were shy and fearful. Neither had been groomed or neutered; and they had no record of any vaccinations. After 2 weeks in the temporary foster home, we decided it would be easier to socialize them if we separated them, since they seemed to cling to each other, rather than interact with humans.
Reggie was the more timid and frightened of the brothers. We hired an animal behaviorist to evaluate his progress. Reggie had several medical issues requiring attention, including two broken dew claws and an impacted tooth. We had to place Reggie in 3 separate foster homes before we found the right fit.
Rudy tested positive for heart worms. We placed him in a new foster home during the long and painful treatments. He would make dramatic progress in developing trust with his foster family, only to take several steps back when he was taken in for more painful therapy.
Getting the brothers ready for adoption was an arduous and expensive process. However, on Saturday, July 16, 2011 a true miracle took place. Both brothers were adopted on the same day into two different wonderful homes. Both dogs are now with their adopters 24/7—just what the doctor ordered.
Reggie lives with 2 Miniature Schnauzer housemates, who have taken Reggie under their wings (paws?). His progress has been nothing short of amazing. Rudy was adopted by a couple who have an 18-month old Miniature Schnauzer named Roscoe. Rudy and Roscoe have become best buddies. They go to the office for a few hours every day and sleep on the master bed at night.
Reggie and Rudy are living their new lives separately, but their new owners plan to let them visit with each other them some day. We’ll let you know how that goes.
A Boy Named Sue
We didn't know what this little guy’s name was. We called him “A Boy Named Sue” because he was at the Lassen County Shelter in Susanville.
Sue is about 1 year old. He is a salt & pepper Miniature Schnauzer, whose coat has become a beautiful silver color.
Sue is a well-socialized little guy. He walks well on a leash and is friendly with other dogs his size. He is clean in the kennels and so appears to be housebroken.
Sue was adopted on July 12, 2011. We wish him a great life and a name better than “Sue.” And we know that his adopters got a great little dog.
Benji
Benji is a super friendly Miniature Schnauzer. He doesn't seem to have met anyone or anything he doesn't like. He's good with people, other dogs, and cats.
Benji is probably between 1 and 2 years old. He weighs about 22 lbs. He's an active guy who likes to play, play, play. However, he is an escape artist, so he needs to go to a home with very secure fencing.
Benji is housebroken, neutered, up-to-date on vaccinations, and in good health. His teeth are sparkling white, without a trace of tartar. He's all natural, with uncropped ears and undocked tail. He's smart too. Within 5 minutes after being shown the dog door, he was going in and out like a pro!
The photo on the left shows Benji as he arrived from the shelter. The photo on the right shows Benji after master groomer Joyce Nagel spent a few minutes trimming his head.
Benji went to his new home in Los Angeles on July 11, 2011, where he joins a female black and silver Miniature Schnauzer. Apparently, it was love at first sight. Yeah, Benji!
Nipsey Russell
OK. You got us. Nipsey isn't really a Schnauzer. He's a 4–5 month old Miniature Dachshund puppy who Joyce was fostering as a favor to a Dachshund rescue group which kindly pulled several Schnauzers from the shelter for us.
Nipsey came to Joyce along with a full-size Dachshund with whom Nipsey became close friends.
Nipsey is extremely outgoing and affectionate. He's in good health, neutered and up-to-date on vaccinations. And he has one advantage over Schnauzers in that he doesn't need to be trimmed. He's a wash and wear dog! Nipsey is perfect for someone who wants a very small dog. He weighs about 6 lbs now and will almost certainly top out at less than 10 lbs.
Nipsely went to his new home in northern California on July 11, 2011, adopted by a family who saw him on this website.
Charles Schultz
Charles Schultz is a really sweet male black Miniature Schnauzer, who came to us from the shelter in Hesperia. We think he ia about 2 years old. Schultz is all-natural, with uncropped ears and undocked tail. He is housebroken, neutered and up-to-date on vaccinations. He has a particularly pretty head.
Schultz loves the other Schnauzers at his foster home. One of the photos shows Schultz with Schatzie, a white female Miniature Schnauzer who came from the Hesperia shelter at the same time as Schultz. They are greeting a Rottweiler in an adjacent pen. (Schatzie has already gone to a new home.) Schultz is very friendly and seems to love everyone.
Schultz was adopted on July 9, 2011. He is moving to Upland, where he joins a family with an Airedale.
Tasha
Tasha is a purebred 1 1/2 years old purebred salt and pepper female Miniature Schnauzer. This really pretty little girl came to us from the Lancaster shelter.
Tasha gets along with everybody and plays with anybody willing to play with her. You won't find a sweeter dog anywhere. And she is even easy to groom— unusual in a dog this young. She appears to be housebroken.
Tasha is in good health. She is up to date on vaccinations, spayed and microchipped. She has very pretty teeth (no tartar).
Tasha has set our speed record! She was adopted less than an hour after being posted on this website and on Petfinder! Tasha, now named Sophie, went to her new home in Bakersfield on July 9, 2011, where she joins a Schnauzer named Sam.
Kolohe and Mailie
Kolohe (Rascal), 3 years old, and Mailie (sweet sister), 2 years old, are purebred male and female Miniature Schnauzers. They need a new forever home because their family is moving back to Hawaii and do not want to quarantine them for 4 months as required by law.
Kolohe and Mailie are devoted to each other and MUST go together.
They are up to date on shots and generally well cared for. They do need to be neutered and spayed before going to heir new home. They will come with beds, collars and toys.
Kilohe and Mailie were adopted by a couple in Reno, NV, on June 30, 2011, just in time to celebrate their own Independence Day!
— — Back to top of page — —
Annabelle
Annabelle is a 6 year old salt and pepper female Miniature Schnauzer.
Annabelle's owner had to give her up because of personal circumstances. Annabelle is housebroken and well-trained—she comes when called!—and is very friendly.
Annabelle likes other animals but prefers being an only dog so that she gets a lot of attention. Young children frighten her. Annabelle's present owner thinks she would be best with a retired person. Annabelle loves to curl up in someone's lap.
Annabelle is in good health, spayed, micro-chipped and up-to-date on vaccinations.
Annabelle has much to celebrate this July 4th. On June 29, 2011, she went to her new home with a retired lady in Mendocino County who, as is obvious from the photo, adores Annabelle.
Dodger
Dodger is a male salt and pepper Miniature Schnauzer. He was born on December 19, 2008, making him 2 1/2 years old. Dodger's owner needs to find a new home for him because her teenage children are heavily into sports and have no time to spend with Dodger.
Dodger weighs about 14–15 lbs., making him just below average in size for a male Miniature Schnauzer. Dodger is in good health, neutered, and current on vaccinations. His next rabies booster is due in April 2013.
Dodger is housebroken. He is good with most animals but sometimes wants to be the dominant dog. He has had obedience training. (Like most Schnauzers, he performs best when motivated by food treats.)
Dodger was adopted on June 27, 2011 by a retired couple in Roseville.
Lance
Sir Lancelot (Lance to his friends) is truly a knight in shining armour. He is a purebred black and silver Miniature Schnauzer, who wakes up joyful every morning upon finding that there is still air to breathe. He truly believes everyone and everything on earth is here for him to greet and play with. He loves people, other dogs, and even cats. And look at that smile!
Lance is about a year old. He's in good health and good to go—neutered and up-to-date on vaccinations.
Lance was adopted on June 27, 2011 by a Los Angeles family with children. Lance loved the kids and they loved him just as much.
Chloe
This is Chloe.
Chloe is a pure-bred salt and pepper Miniature Schnauzer. She is 4 1/2 yrs old.
Chloe is a cuddle-bug. She slept with her former owner’s son every night. Sadly, Chloe’s owner had to move from a home into an apartment, which allows cats but not dogs. (And Chloe was unable to meow well enough to fool the apartment manager.)
Chloe is house broken and comes when called. She is very sweet and gives lots of kisses.
Chloe appears to be in good health. She is neutered and up-to-date on vaccinations.
Chloe went to her new home in Anaheim on June 17, 2011. She joins a family with children. Chloe fell in love with the kids at first sight and the feeling was mutual.
Beau
Beau is a 3-year-old male Miniature Schnauzer mix who was rescued from the San Martin shelter south of San Jose. He is silver with gray undertones, a striking boy. He has natural ears and a nicely curved undocked tail.
Beau is affectionate and friendly with every person he meets, and loves to wrestle and play chase with a young Schnauzer in his foster home. He knows his sit command and his foster mom is working on stay, along with leash training. After a first watchful day in his foster home and many trips outside, Beau has been good about not trying to lift his leg in the house. He sleeps quietly in a crate overnight.
Beau is neutered, up-to-date on vaccinations, and microchipped, thanks to the San Martin shelter—Beau's ready to go!
Beau was adopted on June 15, 2011 by a dog trainer in Mountain View. She owns a Bichon mix, NuNu, who will be Beau's new companion.
Emily Rose
Emily Rose (Emmy) is a “Schnoodle”—a Miniature Schnauzer and Poodle mix. (Her mother was a salt and pepper Schnauzer, and her father was the Poodle Next Door.) You can see Schnauzer accents in the colors of her gray and white coat, and Poodle influence in her curly fur and delicate face.
Emmy is 2 years old. She weighs about 18 lbs. She is very energetic, but can be quiet and companionable in the house. Emmy is crate-trained and totally housebroken. She even lets you know when she needs to go outside. She is a snuggle buddy and great lap dog. She does tend to startle easily at the sound of garbage bags and vacuum cleaners, and gets so excited when a leash is taken out that she does wheelies. Emmy would benefit from more regular exercise than her owners are able to give her. Emmy’s present owner has a cat who Emmy mostly ignores, so she should be fine in a home with a cat.
Emily Rose is spayed, and totally up to date on shots and vet work.
Emily was adopted by a wonderful family in Belmont on June 6, 2011. They have a big yard for her to play chase with her new friend Jacques, a young poodle-terrier mix. C'est l'amour.
Schatze
Schatze is a female white Miniature Schnauzer, from the Hesperia shelter. She appears to be about 2 years old. Schatze is neutered and up-to-date on vaccinations.
Schatze seems to love everyone, gets along with other dogs, and loves kids. She and Charles Schultz (another rescue who came to us at the same time) became close buddies, as shown in the photo of them greeting a Rottweiler in an adjacent pen.
Schatze went to her new home in Hesperia on June 3, 2011, where she has another Schnauzer to keep her company.
Lucy
Lucy is a female Miniature Schnauzer mix. She is about 2 1/2 years old and weighs about 8 pounds. She is spayed, micro-chipped and healthy.
Lucy's present owner adopted Lucy from a shelter after one of her rescue dogs died. However, she was not able to give Lucy enough attention because her older rescue dog is a special needs dog with medical issues that require time-consuming care.
Lucy's owner reported that Lucy was timid when she came from the shelter, but is much more out going now. Lucy is gets along well with other non-alpha dogs.
Lucy is house broken, uses a dog door, and has never had an accident at her present owner's home. Lucy can Sit/Down/shake/Back-up and is working on the stay command.
Lucy doesn't like loud sounds/or loud voices, and she takes a while (with treats) to warm up to visitors.
Lucy went to her new home in Simi Valley on May 27, just in time for the Memorial Day weekend.
Simon
Meet Simon, a Schnauzer puppy, about one year old.
Simon just made his first trip to the groomer, where most of his coat had to be shaved. In about six months, with regular grooming, he is going to be a spectacularly handsome guy. He is salt and pepper (silver, with dark and light gray markings). His ears are not cropped, and they tip forward at the top in the cutest way. His facial markings are beautiful.
Simon was rescued from a shelter. He was quite a handful when he first arrived at his foster home two weeks ago. Since then, Simon has received training, affection and love. The difference within just 48 hours was amazing. He is completely house trained at his foster home.
Simon is incredibly smart and wants to please. Within 30 minutes, he mastered the doggie door. Within 12 hours, he was responding to his new name. He has learned “sit” and “down.” Simon is not a barker, and he doesn't jump on the furniture.
Simon has had a complete physical, including fecal and urine analyses. He is neutered, vaccinated and microchipped. He had a heartworm test and has started his heartworm prevention.
Simon is loving and affectionate. Like all puppies, he needs love, patience and consistent direction, as well as regular exercise. He loves to play with other dogs. He doesn’t seem to be cat aggressive, but he is definitely “cat curious.“
Simon was adopted by a family in Rancho Murietta who had lost their prior Schnauzers to old age. Simon is reportedly doing very well in his new home.
Buddy
Buddy is a neutered, purebred male salt and pepper Miniature Schnauzer. He weighs about 14 lbs. We estimate his age at 6–8 years young.
Buddy was found as a stray around 2009. He then lived with a family with 3 children and a baby. They surrendered Buddy when they encountered financial problems and could no longer afford to care for him.
Buddy is housebroken but needs a restroom break every 4–5 hours, as he was used to having free access to a patio in the past. He has had zero accidents so far in the home of his foster mom.
Buddy doesn't have dental problems—his teeth are all good. However, he has lost one toe due to a malignant tumor on it. Fortunately, the veterinarians have determined that it had not metastasized before removal.
Buddy is super-affectionate and very active. He loves to go for walks and to run. At night, he likes to sleep right on his owner. Buddy needs some training, but he is trainable and responds wonderfully to affection. He is a little challenging of other dogs when going on walks but gets along with the other Schnauzer in his foster home. Given his activity level, Buddy would likely do best with a family with children above 8 years old.
Buddy went to a great new home on May 14, 2011.

Socks and Patcher
Socks and Patcher are 3 1/2 year old brothers (litter mates). Because they have never spent a day apart, they must be adopted together. The nice thing about adopting a duo is that you know they are compatible, and they keep each other company when the rest of the family is not around. These special guys have had a wonderful, loving home since birth. Through no fault of their own (owner’s health issues), they are now being cared for in a foster home in Pioneer until they can be placed together.
Socks and Patcher are two completely different personality types. Like many brothers, they sometimes demonstrate sibling rivalry even though they love each other. Patcher (the slightly smaller brother) is the dominant personality, and Socks is the love bug. They sleep together, eat together, play together—in other words, they’re inseparable.
The boys are purebreds, complete with AKC paperwork and medical records. They are up to date on vaccinations, and they’ve been microchipped and neutered. Socks and Patcher are healthy, average-sized Miniature Schnauzers (weighing about 25 pounds). They’ve been raised with kids (teens and pre-teens), but don’t like cats. They like their diet of dry food, are happy to sleep in their shared crate space, and they’re house trained. Speaking of training, Socks and Patcher know all kinds of commands: “sit,” “stay,” “down,” and even “go to your room.”
The brothers come completely outfitted for their new family. They will bring their beds, collars, leashes, dishes and toys. About their toys, they love to play fetch. But, their favorite game of all is chasing soap bubbles! Their teeth are in good shape, because they like their dental bones.
Socks and Patcher were adopted quickly. They went to their new home on May 14, 2011, less than a week after they came into our rescue.
Max
Max is a 7 years old black Miniature Schnauzer. Max is about 18 pounds.
Max's former owners say he is good with children. Max walks well on a leash, and the lady who groomed Max said he was a "groomer's DREAM!!!" (That's very unusual for a dog at a shelter who is usually frightened by all the changes.)
Max is neutered and up-to-date on vaccinations. His foster mom says he's a very sweet boy.
On March 8, 2011, Max was adopted by a retired couple in Santa Rosa, where he will join a female Lhasa Apso.
Rasco
Rasco is a 3 year old pure-bred salt & pepper male Miniature Schnauzer. He needs a new home because his owner is seriously ill and can no longer care for him.
Rasco is in good health, current on all vaccines and will be neutered before he is placed.
Rasco is very affectionate. He has not been around very young children, but should be fine with children 8 or older. He likes cats and female dogs but probably would not get along with another male as he wants to be the alpha dog. Rasco knows how to sit and stay but has a bad habit of running out the door if it is opened without telling him to stay first. He is fully house-broken.
On May 7, 2011, Rasco went to a new home with an adopter and her daughter in Eureka.
Tommy
Tommy is a purebred male salt-and-pepper Miniature Schnauzer who was rescued from the Yolo County Animal Shelter in Woodland. He was a matted mess when we got him, but after some grooming by our expert, Judy Sousa, a handsome Schnauzer emerged.
We estimate that Tommy is 4 to 5 years old. Tommy is definitely smart. He learned his new name immediately and also what “outside” meant. He is good with other dogs, friendly with people, quiet in the car, and quite affectionate. He has been so quick to adjust to inside living that we think he likely lived with a family. Tommy weighs 18 lbs. We had Tommy neutered and also had his teeth cleaned.
On May 7, 2011, Tommy went to a great new home in Ukiah where he will enjoy the companionship of two other Miniature Schnauzers.
Klaus
Klaus is an 8 year old neutered, pure-bred salt & pepper male Miniature Schnauzer. Klaus is looking for a new home because his present owners are separating and are unable to keep him.
Klaus is in good health and is current on all vaccines. Best of all he is housebroken and good with other dogs. (Klaus regularly went to a dog park near his house.) Klaus will come with all his toys, coats, and beds.
Klaus was adopted on April 21, 2011 by a family in Citrus Heights who have a female Schnauzer and a female Cocker Spaniel to keep Klaus company.
Desi
Desi was found wandering around in Vacaville by a collie owner. Her next door neighbor fostered him.
Desi is about 8 years old. He is very well behaved and gets along well with other dogs and with cats. (The photo of Desi with the cats was taken before he was groomed.)
Desi was adopted on April 17, 2011 by a couple who live in San Francisco.
Auggie
Auggie is a salt & pepper male Miniature Schnauzer. He is about 3 years old. Auggie came to us from the shelter in Upland. They groomed him and took care of a wound on his leg. Auggie will look even better, though, after master Schnauzer groomer, Joyce Nagel, works her magic on him.
Auggie is very friendly and in good health. He has been neutered and microchipped and is up-to-date on vaccinations.
In April 2011, Auggie was adopted by a lady in Winnetka who plans to take Auggie to work with her.
Jack
Jack is a 4 year old, neutered, salt and pepper Miniature Schnauzer, who was found in a field in Yuba County in September 2010. He spent a couple of weeks in the local shelter before he was rescued by MSCNC and placed with a wonderful foster family.
Jack is a happy and friendly dog. He has a loud voice when he is feeling playful, but does not bark excessively. Jack can be energetic and boisterous when trying to get your attention, or he can just as easily be a big lover who cozies up next to you and is soon sleeping and snoring. He is a very sweet and affectionate boy!
Jack's foster family has young children and 2 female dogs who Jack liked. Jack is a smart people-pleaser and has been quick to learn! He is crate trained, and he mastered the doggy door in just 2 days! He is doing really well at going outside.
Jack was adopted in early April 2011 by a nice couple in Sacramento with an older son who plans on making Jack his jogging partner! They were so happy to finally get another Schnauzer after losing their last boy to old age and illness 3 years ago, and are so glad about Jack being a part of their family.
Coco
Coco is a 2 year old salt & pepper female Miniature Schnauzer.
Coco is friendly and loves lots of attention. Coco is spayed, potty trained to a bell on the door, and knows “sit,” “down,” and “stay”—though she needs more work on “stay.”
Coco's family has decided to surrender her because their lifestyle and commitments do not allow Coco the time and attention she deserves.
Coco was adopted by a family in Modesto just in time for Easter (2011).
Toby
Toby is a neutered male Miniature Schnauzer, about 4 years old. Toby was surrendered to the Yolo County shelter in Woodland by his owner who is having medical issues and can no longer care for Toby. Here are pre- and post-grooming photos of Toby. He now looks more like a Schnauzer and less like a mop with legs.
Toby is “Mr. Nice Guy”—a very sweet and good-natured boy, who is good with other dogs, and “really friendly” with children. (He lived with a 12-year-old and a 6-month-old.) Toby is polite with cats, interested, but will move away from them. Toby loves being around people and wants to be next to you. If you sit with him he will smother you with kisses. Toby does not mark outdoors or inside. He enjoys car trips with the family to visit their grandkids, and is a good passenger. Toby's foster family reports that Toby walks well on a leash, and comes when called.
Toby was somewhat overweight, so his foster family worked to help him lose weight, and also worked on conditioning him. Toby is up-to-date on vaccinations.
On April 7, 2011, Toby joined a family in Cupertino who already love him, and he will have many opportunities for socialization, travel, and fun."

Dora
Dora is a small black female Miniature Schnauzer. We think she is about 4-5 years old. Dora is on the small side for a Miniature Schnauzer, probably about 12-13 lbs. She's about 12" tall.
Dora seems to love everybody and loves nothing more than to be held and petted. She's getting along well with the other dogs in her foster home. She likes walking on a lead, but will need a little practice to walk in a relatively straight line rather than wandering around at random. She loves small kids who are gentle with her. Dora was very well behaved while being bathed and groomed. What a difference between how Dora looked when we got her and after master groomer Carol Hansen did her magic! Yes, that is really the same a-Dora-ble dog in both photos.
Dora hit the jackpot. She's now living in a penthouse condo on Wilshire Boulevard in Westwood. And her adopter will be sharing the condo with one of the world's sweetest dogs.
Dora is fully vaccinated and microchipped, spayed, and has shiny white teeth, now that they have been cleaned.
Ginny
Ginny is a young, cute-as-a-button female black Miniature Schnauzer, who came to us from the Barstow shelter. Ginny is at the smaller end of the size range for Miniature Schnauzers.
Ginny is perky, loves people and gets along with other dogs. All she wants for Easter is a great new home with lots of love.
Ginny is spayed, microchipped and up-to-date on vaccinations.
Ginny was adopted by a new owner in Manhattan Beach where she will be joined in about three weeks by a Schnauzer puppy to keep her company.
Blue
Blue is a 14 month old purebred black & silver Miniature Schnauzer.
Blue is very friendly but a little timid. Blue was purchased by a lady who adored him, but then the owner's daughter, grandchild and Boxer moved in and Blue did not adjust to the additional hustle and bustle in the house, and especially to getting less attention from his owner. Blue will need a home with a little patience to expose him to new situations, without overwhelming him, until he gains more self-confidence.
Blue is healthy, neutered, and up-to-date on vaccinations. He appears to be house-broken.
Blue was adopted by a couple in Anaheim who are experienced Schnauzer owners and who will be getting a Schnauzer puppy in about three weeks to keep Blue company.
Angus
Angus is a black & silver, male 1 year old purebred Miniature Schnauzer.
Angus' owners have 4 schnauzers and Angus does not get along with the others. Alone he is very affectionate and sweet, but a bit insecure and vocal. He would likely be happiest in a one-dog home.
Angus is neutered, up to date on all of his vaccinations and is well groomed.
Angus was adopted by a friend of the prior owner, who saw him in our rescue listings.
Elmo
Elmo is a 1 year old brownish black purebred Miniature Schnauzer. His owner had to give him up due to a job loss.
Elmo is a feisty little guy who loves the companionship of other dogs, big and small. He has not been around cats or other animals, so we cannot say how he would be with them. Elmo likes children over the age of 10, but is somewhat nervous with younger children. He is 90% potty trained, and has an eager appetite. He is a bit rambunctious on a leash and will need some training there, but Elmo loves exploring and running in the outdoors.
Elmo is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on all his vaccinations.
Elmo was adopted by a loving family in Roseville who have a two year old Miniature Schnauzer who has become Elmo's best buddy. The two dogs are inseparable, playing together throughout the day, with Elmo following his new brother everywhere. The entire family loves Elmo, who is helping them heal from the recent loss of their 15 year old pet.
Greta
Greta is a female black and silver Miniature Schnauzer. She is about 3 years old. We rescued Greta from the Lancaster shelter. Unfortunately, she was so badly matted when we got her that we had to shave off most of her eyebrows and leg furnishings. She'll look a lot better after they grown back in.
Greta is very friendly, likes other dogs and gets along with cats. We haven't had her around children, but she probably will love them too. Greta appears to be housebroken because she hasn't messed in the indoor part of her run. She is spayed, microchipped and up-to-date on vaccinations.
Greta was fostered by Joyce Nagel in Palmdale. On March 26, 2011, Greta went to a new home in Huntington Beach where she joins a male Schnauzer. We are told that it was love at first sight when they met each other.
Heidi
Heidi is a purebred 7 year old female Miniatuer Schnauzer.
Heidi was her owner's constant companion. Unfortunately, her owner has developed Alzheimer's and can no longer care for Heidi.
Heidi was recently taken to the vet for a checkup and given a clean bill of health. She is spayed and current on vaccinations.
Heidi is great around kids and other dogs, and she is is housebroken.
Heidi was adopted on March 26, 2011 by a family from Oregon, who kindly send us a photo of them with Heidi.
Corona
Corona is a very friendly male Miniature Schnauzer who is about 2 to 3 years old. He came to us from the shelter in Corona, which kindly had him groomed and neutered.
Corona loves people and kids, and other small dogs, but may not be good with large dogs. One problem though: Corona is very protective of his family and tends to charge at people coming into the house. He needs a family willing and able to crate him or shut him in another room when strangers come into the house.
Corona went to a new home with a couple in the San Fernando Valley on March 11, 2011, where he will be join another Miniature Schnauzer. We hear they became good friends very quickly.
Pepper
Pepper is a male salt and pepper, purebred Miniature Schnauzer. Pepper is 4-5 years old, but full of energy and acts like a puppy. He is neutered, current on all vaccinations, and microchipped. We had Pepper's teeth cleaned too, so Pepper is READY for a new home!
Pepper loves everyone and enjoys playing with other dogs. We haven't had Pepper around small children or kids, but he seems to love anyone who will play with him. Pepper appears to be housebroken.
Pepper and Molly (just below) went to their new home in Stevenson Ranch on March 6, 2011.
Molly
Molly is a female salt and pepper, purebred Miniature Schnauzer. Molly is 3 years old. She is spayed, current on all vaccinations, and microchipped. We had her teeth cleaned too, so Molly is READY for a new home!
Molly knows her name and comes when called. Molly is very affectionate and gets along well with other dogs. She loves to run and play. We have not had her around young children or cats, but Molly seems to love anyone who will play with her.
Molly and Pepper (just above) went to their new home in Stevenson Ranch on March 6, 2011.

Cody
Cody is a purebred black male Miniature Schnauzer puppy. He has a white star on his chest and a perfectly placed white goatee.
Cody is 8 months old, neutered, current on all vaccinations, and microchipped. We had Cody's teeth cleaned too.
Cody is a big bundle of energy. He loves to play and gets along well with other dogs. He sings with delight whenever he gets to come out to play. Needless to say, he is super-affectionate.
Cody was adopted on March 5, 2011 by a family in Santa Barbara with a 9 year old boy and another Schnauzer for Cody to play with.
Anya
Anya is 9 years old but acts and plays like a 2 year old puppy. She is a purebred salt & pepper Miniature Schnauzer.
Anya gets along well with people and children. Anya loves chasing and playing with toys and stuffed animals. She also likes to go on car rides. Anya has lived as a house dog, but enjoys playing outside as long as someone is playing with her or just staying outside with her. Once her human goes back inside the house or closes the door on her, Anya definitely wants back in.
Anya is in good health. We brought her vaccines current and had her neutered.
Anya went to a wonderful home in downtown Carmel where she will be greeting the tourists and taking long walks on the beach.
Stevie
Stevie is a 3 year old Miniature Schnauzer mix who we rescued from the Yuba City shelter. Stevie has never met anyone or anything he did not love immediately. Unfortunately, Stevie had a problem—he had cataracts in both eyes and was almost blind as a result.
Our veterinarians told us that Stevie's quality of life would be greatly enhanced if he could have cataract surgery done. We initially considered doing only one eye but the veterinary opthalmologist strongly recommended doing both eyes in case the surgery does not work well in one of the eyes. The cost, though, was a problem. The surgery and medications cost about $3,500, which is more than we coould afford from our rescue fund if we are going to be able to take care of medical needs of other rescue dogs.
We asked for help with the cost of Stevie's surgery. Several generous people helped, including his adopters. Stevie had his surgery on February 2 and he can now see well! He first had an electroretinograph (ERG) test to be sure that his retinas were normal, since there would have been no point in removing his cataracts if Stevie would not be able to see after the surgery. When the ERG test showed normal retinal responses, Dr. Mughannam performed the surgery to remove Stevie's cataracts. Stevie began to look around as soon as he came out of the anesthesia. Stevie is much livelier and walks with much more confidence than he did before he could see where he was going.
A special thank you to rescue committee member Mary Alford who made several long round trips from Sonora to San Carlos to bring Stevie to Dr. Mughannam, first for the surgery and then for checkups. And a big thank you as well to Karen Melendy who fostered Stevie until he was adopted.
Stevie went to live with two retired sisters in Lincoln, near Sacramento with a female dog and several cats. By all accounts, he is having a great time there.
Magee
Magee is a very friendly little guy, who would love a new home.
Magee is a salt & pepper neutered male Miniature Schnauzer, about 4 years old. Right now, he is somewhat overweight, but he's getting back into shape. He looks a little shell-shocked in the photo but he is much happier now.
We got Magee out of a high kill shelter in Central California. Joyce Nagel fostered him for a couple of weeks in Palmdale. After a couple of weeks with no inquiries about him, we took him up to Sonora. Less than a week after arriving in Sonora, Magee went to a new home in mid-February 2011.
Wayne
Wayne is a neutered male, gray and white Miniature Schnauzer and Lhasa Apso mix. He looks cute in the photo, and he's even cuter now that he has been groomed. We estimated that Wayne is 5 years old, but he's likely younger because he acts very puppyish.
Wayne weighs about 19 pounds. He's healthy and he loves everybody. (If you will play with him, you are Wayne's best new friend.).
We had Wayne in Palmdale for several months but it is hard to get people to drive up to Palmdale when there are so many dogs closer in Los Angeles. Finally, we moved Wayne up to Sonora and, in only about a week, he was adopted! What's more, we got several more inquiries about Wayne in the few hours between the time he left for his new home and when we moved him from the page for adoptable dogs to this "placed" page.
Mikie
Mikie is a handsome, salt and pepper purebred male Miniature Schnauzer whose elderly owner recently died. This dignified, well-mannered 4½ year old received the best of care before coming into rescue, spending his days with his devoted owner and his nights snuggling in her bed. He is fully up-to-date on all shots, and is neutered. Mikie is 14 inches tall, and weighs 18 lbs.
Since being in his foster home Mikie has learned to use a doggie door and is receiving obedience training. He knows sit, down, and come commands, and is working on “stay.” Mikie is very good with other dogs, loves people, and is housebroken. We have been told that he is good around children, as he used to play with the grandchildren of his former owner.
Mikie is not possessive with his toys, sharing even his favorite “McDuck” with the dogs in his foster home, then setting it before his foster mom for her to toss so he can retrieve it. He loves curling up in a warm lap, but waits for permission to do so before jumping up. This sweet little boy is usually quiet except when he flaps his natural, floppy ears.
Mikie was adopted on February 15 by a couple from Auburn with an 8 year old female dog. It was love at first sight. Thanks to Gloria Young for fostering Mikie.
Nemo
Nemo is a 1 year old neutered male Miniature Schnauzer puppy. The family who bought Nemo was unable to keep him because their elderly parents, who were to care for Nemo by day, found an energetic puppy too much for them.
Nemo is housebroken and knows how to use a dog door. He is in good health and was fully vaccinated as of April 2010.
Nemo craves attention so comes to be petted quite often. He is good with kids and he is not a barker. Nemo is fearful of strangers for the first few minutes and then settles down.
Nemo is an athletic active dog. He'd likely benefit from going to a dog training class to become more relaxed around strangers and so the owners know how to prevent him from developing bad habits. Nemo was adopted by a San Francisco family on January 22, 2011. Unfortunately, while they adored Nemo and Nemo loved them, their other Schnauzer resented having competition for their affection, so we needed to find a new home for him.
We found one and Nemo went to a great new home on February 20, 2011.
Cooper
Cooper is a purebred white Miniature Schnauzer, about 8 years old. He is friendly, eager to please, obedient, enjoys the companionship of people and gets along with other dogs. He is generally laid back and very well behaved. His favorite pastime is relaxing in the sun.
Cooper has been neutered, is updated on all his vaccinations, and just had a thorough teeth cleaning and other dental work. He is a healthy and happy boy.
Cooper's owner surrendered him (and Anya and Rina below) because she lost her job and had to move back in with her parents, who have their own dogs—three additional Schnauzers made too many dogs!
Unfortunately, Cooper's prior owner cut off his beard and leg hair. He will look much more “Schnauzery” when they have grown back in and he is properly groomed.
Cooper was fostered by Gloria Young in Santa Rosa. On Feburary 10, 2011, Cooper was adopted by a family in Santa Rosa, who formerly owned a Malamute. We're told it was love at first sight on both sides.
Koby
Koby is a black Miniature Schnauzer, about 5 years old. We rescued Koby from the Hesperia shelter.
Koby loves to run and play. Koby is very well behaved. In fact, he was a dream to groom. Unfortunately, when they groomed him at the shelter, they shaved the top of his nose and cut off all his eye brows. Koby will look even prettier when they grow back in.
Koby is very sweet. One of his favorite pastimes is crawling into someone's lap to give kisses.
Koby was being fostered in Palmdale by Joyce Nagel. He was adopted after less than a day on this website and Petfinder by someone who found him on the Internet. Koby says a big THANK YOU to Joyce and to Tim Berners-Lee who invented the Internet. (No, it was not Al Gore who invented the Internet.)
Rudy
Rudy is a Schnauzer mix. He has natural ears and a natural tail. He is about 2 years old.
Rudy does not photograph well. He looks much nicer in person than he does in photos.
Rudy is a super-sweet, super-fun little dog. He loves everyone. Rudy loves to play with toys, especially rubber balls with squeakers in them. And when he has finished playing, he loves nothing more than rolling over and having his tummy rubbed.
We rescued Rudy from a City of Los Angeles shelter. Travelling north on February 7, 2011 was Rudy's lucky day. Rudy was adopted on February 8, less than 24 hours after arriving in Sonora. He is now living happily in his new home in Murphys.

Katie
Katie is a purebred black female Miniature Schnauzer. She is about 5 years old.
Katie was in a lot of pain and covered with tick bites when we rescued her from the Lancaster, California shelter. We had Katie checked out and found that she had a large bladder stone that was causing the pain. The stone has been removed, the ticks and fleas have been removed. Katie is feeling much better, and has become much more affectionate, though she is still somewhat reserved around strangers.
Katie was being fostered in Palmdale by Joyce Nagel of Southern California Miniature Schnauzer Rescue. On February 7, 2011, Bill Boutin and Kaylynn Reeb of Geyserville adopted Katie. Transporting Katie up north was a cooperative effort. MSCNC member John Hoffman took Katie from Palmdale, where she was being fostered by Joyce Nagel, to Merced. MSCSC member Jane Robb, a friend of the adopters, then delivered Katie to Bill and Kaylynn.
Katie is reportedly doing well in her new home where she joins three other rescue dogs. Yeah, Katie
Betty
Betty is one lucky Schnauzer!
Betty is a salt & pepper female Miniature Schnauzer estimated to be about 1 year old. She came to us from the Bakersfield shelter. The shelter did not know her name, so we named her Betty after Betty Crocker, the renowned baker.
Betty is supercute and superfriendly. She will give a lot of love to whoever adopts her.
Betty was fostered by Joyce Nagel in Palmdale. Betty was a dirty mess when she arrived on January 29. Fortunately, Joyce got Betty groomed right away, because the very next day, on January 30, Betty was adopted by a gentleman from Monrovia who owns a Lhasa Apso. Betty and her new roommate hit it off immediately, so Betty will have a friend to play with as well as a great new home.
Schroeder
Schroeder is a 6 1/2 months old purebred black male Miniature Schnauzer puppy.
Schroeder was surrendered by a single mom. He was a birthday gift for her 2 year old daughter from her now ex-husband. However, a lively puppy was too much for her to handle with 2 young children, and a 3rd on the way.
Like most “teenagers,” Schroeder looks lanky because he has not yet filled out. He has a wiry coat, very shiny black, and not much beard so far.
Schroeder is energetic and loves to play. Schroeder will need some obedience training and close watching because he likes to slip out the door given the opportunity. His foster mom is working on that and on leash training. Schroeder was nervous and barky when his foster mom first showed up to get him, but settled down and was friendly after a while.
Schroeder was adopted on January 29, 2011, by a family who drove all the way from Lone Pine to Oakdale to see him. He joins a 4 year old rescued female Schnauzer mix, who quickly told Schroeder who would be boss. Fortunately, ever the gentleman, Schroeder said “fine, whatever.”
Rex
Rex is a neutered purebred salt & pepper Miniature Schnauzer who was fostered by a Standard Schnauzer breeder in San Jose. The breeder took Rex in after someone else misidentified Rex as a small Standard Schnauzer because of his height—he is about 16 inches at the shoulder.
Rex has a docked tail, uncropped ears, and is 5 years old. Rex is energetic and healthy, and his shots were updated during fostering.
Rex was in his foster home for almost a year before his foster contacted us. We were initially concerned because he seemed to prefer women to men, and we were unsure how he would react to other dogs. However, Rex showed much progress in his socialization in the month or so before he was adopted. He was friendly with several men he met during grooming and while meeting prospectiveadopters. He also liked other Miniature Schnauzers and a Chihuahua to whom we introduced him.
Rex was adopted on January 8, 2011 by a generous-hearted couple in Discovery Bay who are experienced Schnauzer owners and willing to work further with him. The photo shows Rex (right) at the Discovery Bay Marina with his proud owners (red jackets), their son, and new Schnauzer friends Macy (center) and Rocky (left).
Lucky
Lucky is a purebred black neutered male Miniature Schnauzer. Lucky is about 5 years old and healthy. He has natural ears and a natural tail.
Lucky's owners surrendered Lucky after he spent about 3 years in a backyard with a friendly pit bull. Lucky had not been groomed in 3 years. His back was covered with matted "dreadlocks", except for the rear third which was devoid of hair because he had been scratching flea bites. We had Lucky neutered, brought up to date on vaccinations, and groomed by Carol Hansen, one of the best Schnauzer groomers in Southern California. The fleas are gone, the sores are healed, and much of his hair has grown back where it was missing.
Lucky is very friendly. He loves people, including kids. He likes other dogs. We don't know how he'd be around cats since we have not had him near any, but the odds are that he'd love them too since we haven't found anything Lucky does not like. The one downside to Lucky is that he'll require some work in the housebreaking department because he has not been in a house since he was a puppy.
Lucky was adopted in January 2011.
Jasper
Jasper is a friendly 4-year-old purebred male Miniature Schnauzer who was given up by a loving owner who lost his job, must relocate, and sadly could not take Jasper with him. This dignified, handsome salt and pepper boy had unusually good care before coming into rescue. He is fully up-to-date on all shots, neutered, and has gorgeous white teeth—the result of his previous owner using a sonic toothbrush regularly. Jasper is tall, leggy, and very slender, weighing 21 lbs.
Jasper’s foster home tells us that he received obedience training and knows his sit, down, and come commands. (He is getting a refresher course in “stay.”) He is very good with other dogs, loves people, and is housebroken. He has not yet been tested with children.
Jasper sometimes is startled at new noises and squeaks instead of barking (well, nobody’s perfect). He was used to being left alone much of the day while his owner worked, but would clearly enjoy another dog’s companionship or more face time with new owners.
Jasper went to his new home in Sacramento on December 18, 2010.
Niko
Niko is a purebred neutered male Miniature Schnauzer. Niko is 4 years old and healthy. Unlike most of the Schnauzers who come into our rescue, we know Niko's background because he was bred by an MSCNC member in northern California. That member was planning to show Niko but sold him as a pet because he matured 1/4 inch shorter than is optimum for a show dog.
Niko's owner surrendered Niko (and a female Schnauzer, Bindi, who has been adopted) because she was unable to spend enough time with them.
Niko is extremely mellow, somewhat lazy...isn't too active. He also loves food, and is a bit on the chunky side right now.
Niko was adopted in mid-December 2010 by a couple in Morgan Hill who were prior Schnauzer owners.
Peppi
Peppi is a five year old female salt and pepper Miniature Schnauzer. She was surrendered on October 27, 2010, by the family of her owner, a teenager. The teenage owner lost interest in Peppi during her senior year in high school and then left for college, leaving Peppi with her father. Poor Peppi has lived a relatively solitary life in the garage for the past two years.
Peppi is a playful, lively dog who adapted easily in her new foster home. Peppi did not have any accidents in the home, loves being outdoors in the back yard, and does her business on walks.
Peppi knows commands like sit, stay, down, is very intelligent and learns new commands easily. Peppi is not vocal or yappy. Peppi has a good appetite, but does not beg for food when her foster mom is snacking. She is a quiet sleeper. Peppi loves rawhide chews and dog toys, but has not chewed on anything else in the house. In short, she gets an A for behavior.
Peppi loves to play fetch the ball and gets along well with the other dogs in the foster home. She is sweet-natured and a great companion dog. Thanks to our expert club groomer Judy Sousa for making this girl look like the pretty Schnauzer she is.
Peppi went to a great new home in the Sacramento area the day after Thanksgiving 2010.
Cole
Cole is a purebred male salt & pepper Miniature Schnauzer, who is so light in color that he looks white in the photograph. Cole is about 6 years old, playful and very friendly. He is lively and in good health. Cole is neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccinations.
Another rescue group got Cole out of the Long Beach shelter, had him neutered and brought up to date on vaccinations. We arranged to have Cole fostered by Carol Hansen of Miniature Schnauzer Club of Southern California rescue.
We worked closely with the Miniature Schnauzer Club of Southern California, trying to find the best possible home for Cole. Ultimately, the Miniature Schnauzer Club of Southern California found some great adopters for Cole and he went to his new home in Monterey Park on November 21, 2010.
Bella
Bella is a black Miniature Schnauzer, probably between 1 and 2 years old, who was found running loose in a field near Yuba City. Bella is super-affectionate, but was a little wild when we first got her. She has calmed down quite a bit during the short time she has been in a foster home. She's also smart. In that short time, she has become 3/4 housebroken.
Bella's foster mom says that “I have seen her interact with cats, dogs, older children and adults. She just craves love. She does jump up and lick your face to death.”
Bella learned quickly how to walk on a leash, just watching the other dog in the foster home. However, as quick a learner as Bella is, she clearly will require some training in her new home—pretty usual for so young a dog.
Bella went to her new home with a retired nurse in the Sacramento area on November 20, 2010.

Pepper
Pepper was found abandoned in Suisun City about 4 months ago. The lady who found her kindly fostered Pepper but was unable to keep Pepper.
Pepper is a mellow 8-9 year old female. She is healthy and current on her vaccinations. She is house-trained—she had not a single accident in her foster home.
Pepper gets along with kids and other dogs. Her foster mom said that Pepper is not a barker and is “the perfect dog.” Her foster Mom would have loved to have kept Pepper, but her Husky does not like small dogs.
Pepper went to a new home in Castro Valley on November 14, just in time for Thanksgiving.
Lacy
Lacy was rescued from the Placer SPCA in Roseville. Lacy was surrendered by an owner who left her alone most of the day and night and did not have time for her.
In spite of her recent neglect, this sweetheart purebred Schnauzer is outgoing and affectionate, well-mannered, good with other dogs, and calm and unflappable around kids. Lacy has uncropped ears and a cute feathery “natural” tail that she wags a lot. She has not had any accidents in her foster home. She also knows the sit and down commands, and comes when called. Lacy is about five years old, and it’s apparent from her friendly, well-socialized behavior that she had a good home earlier in her life and probably lived with a family and kids.
Lacy went to a great new home in Sacramento on November 10 where she will enjoy the companionship of a handsome 8-year-old schnauzer, Shadow, lots of walks, and fun times at dog day care.
Libby
Libby, a purebred Miniature Schnauzer, has a new lease on life at 8 years of age.
Libby was discovered abandoned at a Bakersfield school and taken to the Kern County shelter. Libby was then transported to Kingsburg by a cooperating rescue group where she was picked up by Mary Alford and Betsie Corwin, MSCNC Rescue members. This darling girl was suffering from pneumonia, a collapsed lung, and badly neglected teeth. A wonderful Sonora veterinarian spent considerable time for a very small charge helping to get Libby back on on all four paws. Thanks to his efforts as well as the love and care of her foster mom, Karen, Libby has made a remarkable recovery.
As you can see from the picture taken with her playmate, Flapjack, at her foster home, Libby enjoys the company of other small dogs.
Libby was adopted by a retired couple and went to her new home in Pelican Bay, near Sacramento, on November 6, 2010.
Mickey
Mickey is a neutered male, purebred salt & pepper Miniature Schnauzer. The shelter estimated that Mickey is about 5 years old, but he acts younger.
Mickey weighs about 26 pounds. He is healthy, he is extremely friendly and outgoing. He likes children and other dogs, but not cats.
Mickey is very energetic and boisterous. He'll need a bit of obedience training.
Mickey was fostered in Palmdale by Joyce Nagel and went to a new home near San Diego in early November. His new family includes two boys who adore Mickey and give him plenty of exercise.
Dustin
Dustin is a handsome black and silver neutered male Miniature Schnauzer who will celebrate his 10th birthday on October 19th. Dustin was found as a stray and held at the Merced Animal Shelter for a month while the staff tried unsuccessfully to locate his family. Dustin was on death row at the shelter when MSCNC took him in.
Dustin is neutered and had some dental cleaning and extractions. He has also been dewormed, and was given his rabies vaccination, DHPP and Bordatella vaccinations.
Dustin doesn't seem interested in chasing a ball or toys, but he does like to go for rides in the car and for walks. Dustin has a nice polite manner around new people. He visited a local Care Center where he loved getting petting by the older folks and didn't mind wheelchairs or noise from oxygen machines. He has great potential as a therapy dog.
Dustin went to a great new home on October 23, 2010, where he joins a fenake Shih Tzu/Yorkie named Callie.
Jacob
Jacob is not a purebred Miniature Schnauzer, but he is part Schnauzer and all cute. He looks even cuter now that master Groomer Joyce Nagel has him groomed. (This photo was taken just after we got him out of the Los Angeles North Central shelter on August 22, 2010.)
Jacob has natural ears and a natural tail. We think he is about one year old.
Jacob had an abscess on his abdomen that resulted from being bitten by another dog at the shelter. We had the abscess treated and Jacob was then neutered after the wound healed. Jacob is microchipped and up-to-date on vaccinations.
Jacob is friendly, outgoing and playful. There may be someone Jacob doesn't like. If so, Jacob hasn't met that person yet.
Jacob went to a new home on October 15, 2010, with a family in Whittier, where he will join some tropical fish.
Ollie
Ollie is a 2-year old male Miniature Schnauzer, who was adopted so quickly that we did not have time to list him on the website as available for adoption.
Ollie was an owner surrender by a family who had acquired him when Ollie was a puppy. They had to place him because Ollie was not good around toddlers and Grandma, who lives with the family babysits young children.
Ollie was ready to go—neutered, microchipped, and current on all vaccinations. And go he did. Ollie was adopted by a family in Brentwood, California. The lucky day of 10/10/10 definitely proved to be Ollie's lucky day!
Carly
Carly is a sweet, young purebred Miniature Schnauzer, who was rescued from the Long Beach shelter.
The SPCA-LA was going to take Carly—until they learned that she had a badly broken leg and crushed foot. SPCA-LA then returned Carly to Long Beach Animal Care Services to be put down. AMRT (Animal Match Rescue Team, a rescue organization that works closely with the Long Beach shelter) couldn't stand by and let that happen, so they took her into their rescue program. After receiving veterinary advice that Carly's leg was too badly broken to fix, AMRT had the leg amputated.
Having 3 legs hasn't slowed Carly down one bit! She is extremely sweet, housebroken, knows how to use the doggy door, and gets along well with her doggy foster sister and brothers. When she gets the chance, Carly also likes to do power lap sitting.
On October 11, 2010, Carly was adopted by a San Francisco physician who found Carly through MSCNC Rescue. We are thrilled to have helped AMRT find a great home for her.
Pepi and Gideon
Pepi (6 years) and Gideon (13) had a happy, loving home in Northern California until recently, when one of their owners developed a serious health condition that required giving them up. It was a wrenching decision for the family, who adored both boys. They were in fostering for a week in different homes in Sunnyvale and San Jose.
Both boys earned an A+ in their foster homes for good behavior. Gideon was the biggest surprise. He had never had much exposure to small children, but earned raves from his foster family and their three small boys for extremely kid-friendly behavior. Neither boy made a mistake in his foster home.
And then a miracle happened: Heather, a kind-hearted woman in Chico with a 7-year old son, Jordan, read their descriptions on our web site and decided to offer both boys a home. We weren’t sure how Pepi would react to Jordan—Pepi had previously been timid around kids—but a few minutes after they drove up to our meeting place at a dog park, it was clear that a great boy-dog story was in the works, as our photo shows. And, Gideon has gained two wonderful back-scratchers and admirers.
Gideon and Pepi were adopted on October 10, 2010. In addition to their loving new home, they will enjoy occasional camping and hikes, lots of exercise, and visits to a dog salon and spa in Chico.
Steve
Steve is a handsome, neutered purebred, male, salt and pepper Miniature Schnauzer. He came from the Los Angeles East Valley shelter, where they had listed Steve as a Schnauzer mix. We were pretty sure, though, that under the overgrown matted hair was a gorgeous purebred Schnauzer—and were we ever right!
We estimate that Steve is 7 to 8 years old. He is lively and appears to be in good health. Steve is super-friendly with people and with other dogs. We haven't had him around cats or small children, but so far we haven't found anyone or anything that Steve does not regard as a new friend.
Steve was adopted and went to his new home in Poway on October 9, 2010. Now renamed Winston, he joins a 12 year old female Miniature Schnauzer named Chrissy.

Shanti
Shanti is a 1-year-old purebred salt-and-pepper male Miniature Schnauzer with cropped ears and docked tail.
Shanti lived in an apartment in San Francisco which did not allow pets, and his owners had to give him up when the landlady discovered he was there.
Shanti was adopted on August 29, 2010 by a wonderful family in Novato who had 2 other Schnauzers, ages 6 and 13, to keep him company. Sadly, about a month later, his adopter developed medical problems that precluded her from keeping Shanti.
Shanti is now in a new foster home. His foster mom says Shanti has not had any accidents in their home, loves outdoor walks, does his business on the walks, doesn't tug on leash, stays on the sidewalk, and takes orders about stopping and starting. She adds that Shanti is not overly vocal or yappy—he just barks for the first minute or so when a stranger first first comes into the house. Shanti has a good appetite, but does not beg for food when his foster mom is snacking. He is a quiet sleeper, and does not roam at night. He loves rawhide chews, and has not chewed on anything else in the house. In short, he gets an A for behavior. He is sweet-natured and a companion dog. Shanti loves to play and he also gets along well with other dogs.
Things went so well in his new foster home that his foster Mom decided to adopt Shanti.
Bentley
We rescued Bentley from the Bakersfield shelter where he was scheduled for euthansia if not taken by a rescue group. He was a stinky mess when we got him. After a thorough bathing job and some skilled grooming, Bentley turned into the gorgeous Schnauzer in the photo! Unchanged, though, is how sweet a dog Bentley is. He's just a lot nicer to have around now that he doesn't smell bad any more.
The shelter estimated Bentley's age at about 3, which seems about right. Bentley is not a big guy, only about 12 1/2 or 13" high, and maybe 15 pounds. He is, however, a GREAT dog. He hasn't marked in his foster home, he seems to know "sit, and he behaved fantastically while being groomed, even though getting groomed is not very comfortable when a dog is as matted as Bentley was. In fact, his foster mom was heard to say: "I wish my own dogs behaved as well when they are being groomed." Bentley was also a good boy around his foster mom's horses.
After being neutered, Bentley went to his new home on September 25, 2010.
Andy (formerly Toby)
Andy is a purebred white Miniature Schnauzer. He was born 12/25/2001, which makes him 8 1/2 years old. Andy is neutered and up to date on his vaccinations, though he will need to be revaccinated against rabies by the end of the year.
Andy has a laid back personality. He is friendly with people, and likes kids and other dogs.
We got several inquiries about Andy but his foster mom decided she could not part with him. Being a solo dog was a change for Andy, but he adopted quickly, especially when he learned that he gets a lot more personal attention than he did before and that he gets to go for a nice long walk almost every day.
This is a nice new photo of Andy, right after his first bath in his new home in the Sacramento area.
Jake
Jake is a purebred black Miniature Schnauzer. He was born on 5/23/2006, and thus is 4 years old. Jake loves everyone and wants to play, play, play. He likes children and other dogs, having grown up with Andy/Toby, above.
Jake is neutered and up to date on vaccinations.
Jake and Andy were living in Folsom with their former owner, who was devastated that she had to give them up because of family circumstances.
Jake was adopted and went to live with his new family in Danville on September 20, 2010, where he joins 2 kids and a Labrador Retriever.
Bug Bug
Lovebug, or Bug Bug as she's affectionately known, was living in a garage with her family in Lodi when she was rescued by an MSCNC member. She is no more than 3 years of age but had already been bred multiple times. This little sweetie had dental problems along with bladder stones and a urinary tract infection. After a few days at the veterinary clinic where she had dental work done along with spaying and stone removal, Bug Bug joined her foster family in Sonora.
Bug Bug is an easy going girl that loves to go for walks in the neighborhood as well as cuddling in her owner's lap. In fact, Bug Bug follows her person around the house as though connected by a leash.
Bug Bug's foster family fell in love with her and decided to adopt her.
Terry
Terry is an almost white, very light salt and pepper, pure-bred female Miniature Schnauzer. Terry is about 1 1/2 years old. Terry has natural ears and a cropped tail.
Terry is an "easy keeper." She loves people and other dogs.
We received Terry on August 18, 2010. We had her spayed and got her current on vaccinations.
It did not take long to place her once Terry was ready to go to a new home. She was adopted on September 12, 2010.
Sugar
Sugar is well-named, because she is a super-sweet Schnauzer. Sugar was lucky enough to have a wonderful owner for most of her life. Sadly, now that Sugar is in the twilight of her life, Sugar needs a new home because her owner is suffering from terminal cancer. Even then, her owner made sure that Sugar would be safe before the owner became incapacitated.
Sugar is housebroken, spayed, and a delight to have around. Sugar enjoys going on walks, and cuddling with her owner. Sugar's foster Mom says that Sugar is affectionate and energetic, but prefers a quieter lifestyle than that of her foster Mom, who is an avid hiker and loves to travel in her spare time.
Sugar was fostered by a wonderful lady who had nursed her prior Schnauzer, Lucy, through many difficult illnesses until Lucy died earlier this year. She took wonderful care of Sugar until Sugar was adopted on September 12, 2010.
Fritz
Fritz is a neutered, purebred black Miniature Schnauzer. He's about 3 years old.
Fritz was found wandering in the Franklin/Fruitvale area about a year ago. The man who found Fritz tried unsuccessfully to locate Fritz's owner. Fritz is microchipped, but the registered information led only to a disconnected phone number. The man then placed with a couple, but the husband doesn't like small dogs and relegated poor Fritz to the back yard. The man who found Fritz then placed Fritz with a lady who does dog sitting and who asked us to help find a great permanent home for Fritz.
Fritz doesn't look like your typical Schnauzer right now because his beard and leg hair have been shaved off, but we guarantee he'll be beautiful when his hair grows back in and he's properly groomed—actually, he look's great now, even if he doesn't look like a typical Schnauzer.
Fritz is very affectionate and well mannered. He doesn't jump up and he is not ar barker. Fritz likes other dogs, and we're told his good with children. Fritz is clean and understands how to use a dog door.
Fritz went to a new permanent home on September 12, 2010. Here he is pictured with his happy new adopter.
Elmo and Smoochie
Elmo (front) is a 5 year old purebred, male, salt & pepper Miniature Schnauzer. Elmo is a sweet heart. He loves to be petted and to sit by his people. Elmo is very welll behaved and even tempered.
Smoochie, Elmo's littermate, is a 5 year old, black, female, purebred Miniature Schnauzer. Like Elmo, Smoochie is well behaved dog. She loves to be petted also and will try to get more attention then Elmo.
Both Elmo and Smoochie are great with children and adults. They are up to date on all their shots and have just been groomed. Both have cropped ears and docked tails.
Elmo and Smoochie's present owner had to give them up because their new landlord wouldn't allow her to keep the dogs. She wanted very much to find a home for them together as they grew up with each other and staying together would ease the transition to a new home.
We're pleased to report that Elmo and Smoochie went to a new in Sacramento on September 3, 2010, after their adopter saw them on this website.
Elmo and Smoochie are doing well in their new home.
Bella
Bella is a purebred, 2 year old, black Miniature Schnauzer. Bella is current on all of her vaccinations, and comes with her "papers." Bella has natural ears, a docked tail, and dew claws removed.
Bella is completely potty-trained, with and without a "doggy door." She gets along well with children and other pets, and has excellent "manners." She is a good-natured, sweet, little dog.
We had Bella spayed and checked out by a vet before we placed her.
Bella went to her new home in San Jose on August 29, 2010.

Scottie
His name is Scottie, but he's no Scottie. He is Miniature Schnauzer through and through.
Scottie is a 7 year old neutered male, who acts younger than he is. He is light salt & pepper in color. Scottie is very laid back and very loveable.
Scottie's owner had him since Scottie was a puppy but she moved to a care facility and can no longer care for Scottie. He is used to having children visit, but is not used to have children is the household. Scottie likes other dogs.
Scottie was fostered in San Leandro, where he enjoyed the company of Poppi, a female Miniature Schnauzer. As is evident from the photo, Scottie was a bit overweight. He has been on a diet and getting more exercise, so he is well on his way towards getting back into top shape.
Scottie went to a new home in Lafayette on August 29, 2010.
LB
LB is a very sweet male salt-and-pepper Miniature Schnauzer Schnauzer. LB is of average size, weighing in at 15 lbs. LB came into the Long Beach shelter as a stray wearing a blue collar. The shelter estimated LB's age at 10, but he is very spry, so he is likely younger. LB likes other dogs. He is curious and active, yet gentle and very sweet. LB is a lovely dog who deserved a great home in which to spend his golden years. LB is a handsome boy and looks even better now than he does in the photo after his foster mother, Carole Hansen Baws of the Miniature Schnauzer Club of Southern California, did her magic on him.
LB is neutered and up to date on vaccinations.
LB went to a great new home on August 8, 2010.
Penny
Penny is a true "people-lover"—even small people. She grew up with toddlers in the house and adored them. Penny is still a youngster herself—only three years old. She's a purebred Miniature Schnauzer, with natural tail and ears. Her salt and pepper coat is cut short for the summer, but you can imagine how beautiful she's going to be when her coat grows out.
Penny's family were heartbroken when they contacted us for help in placing her. As with so many families in recent times, Penny's family lost their home and couldn't find affordable housing that allowed pets. Penny's favorite thing in life is to provide companionship for her family. She is just about perfect in every way. She's house-trained—she didn't had even one accident at her foster home. She's good on the leash, but is small enough to be picked up and carried—14 solid pounds of healthy girl. She's crate trained, but of course prefers to be with the family. We said she's "just about perfect". This sweetie does have one flaw—she is bossy with other dogs. We therefore looked for a home with children, but without other dogs or cats.
On August 7, 2010, Penny went to her new home, a family in El Cajon with three daughters, who found Penny through MSCNC Rescue. We hope she will have a long and happy life with them and we know she will bring them a lot of joy.
Doc and Emily
Doc (left) and Emily (right) came to us from the Camarillo shelter via another rescue group which could not foster them, but which kindly adopted them out of the shelter and transported them to Palmdale for us. We were asked to place them together as they have lived together all of Emily's life; and Emily appears to be somewhat emotionally dependent on Doc.
Both are purebred salt & pepper Miniature Schnauzers. Doc is a neutered 8-year old male and Emily is a spayed 5-year old female. Both have great temperaments and appear to be in good health. Both needed a good grooming, but our expert groomer, Joyce Nagel, took care of that. Hopefully, we can get some photos of them nicely groomed up.
Doc and Emily were fostered by Joyce Nagel of Southern California Schnauzer Rescue in Palmdale. They went to their new home in Martinez on August 7, 2010 where they join a Maine Coon cat named Gusto. Their adopters found Doc and Emily through this website. They were looking for a pair of Schnauzers who get along well together, and Doc and Emily fit the bill!
Arthur
Arthur is about 7-8 years old. He is a neutered, male, pure-bred Miniature Schnauzer. Arthur's mom lost her home and he needed a new forever home. Arthur had been with other Schnauzers, both Miniatures and Giants, and around kids. He is crate trained, sits, comes on demand and has a wonderful personality.
Arthur was fostered in the Santa Rosa area by Milli Conover, an experienced Schnauzer owner.
Arthur went to a great new home in Santa Cruz on August 6, 2010, where he will have an 11-year-old Schnauzer companion named Gretel. Gretel was lonely because she recently lost her male littermate companion. She and Arthur hit it off on first meeting. They will enjoy daily walks and be the stars at family gatherings. That's just the type of home Milli was looking for because Arthur has lived with other dogs all his life (and of course he loves people too!).
Abby
When you meet Abby, you are not going to believe that this bundle of energy is five years old. In fact, when she was groomed this week, the groomers thought she was no more than one year old! You can see by her photo, that she is a sturdy, healthy and pretty girl. She hasn’t had a traditional Schnauzer cut, so you’ll have to imagine how gorgeous she’s going to be when her skirt, legs and facial hair grow out.
Abby's full pedigree name is “Abigail Persian Princess”, but she’s known as Abby to her friends. She also has a diploma from the PetSmart Puppy Academy. It’s obvious that this little girl is as smart as they come. Even though she had never seen a pet door in her life, it took her only two minutes to learn how to use the pet door in her foster home. She’s house trained, of course.
As a Persian Princess, Abby doesn’t really think of herself as a dog, but she does like to show off her dog tricks: she knows all the usual tricks like “sit”, “shake”, “down” and “roll over”. She also plays dead when you point your fingers at her and say “bang, bang!” She loves to play fetch and tug-of-war.
Abby’s foster mom has found her to be loving and attentive. She likes both men and women, but needs to be placed in a home with no toddlers or cats. We thought she would be aggressive to other dogs, because she sure likes to bark at them when they walk by on the street. However, she has been quite sociable with the three dogs in her foster home.
Abby has a history of prior urinary tract problems, so she should be on a special diet. She is microchipped, spayed and up to date on her vaccinations and flea treatment. She comes equipped with a three month supply of heartworm medication. She likes those dental chewies, so her teeth are sparkling white. When she packed up to start her new life, she brought her favorite toys and even her own bed.
Abby went to her new home in Sparks, NV on August 3, 2010.
Buddy
Buddy is a 3 1/2 year old bundle of fun. He is a salt and pepper medium sized Schnauzer, weighing in at about 17 muscular pounds. Buddy was dearly loved by his owner, but became an orphan being temporarily cared for by a family friend. Buddy gets along well with other dogs, but needed to be in a cat-free home. Buddy seems to think that it's great fun to chase the felines, which is why his foster situation did not work out.
Like most Miniature Schnauzers, Buddy loves to talk. In fact, he has mastered the art of sometimes talking without even moving his lips! What a clown! He would make a great ventriloquist. He is also a big cuddler—not happy to just sit down next to you on the couch, but likes to lean on his human. Buddy is a terrific ball player, and will play fetch as long as someone will throw the ball for him.
Buddy went to his forever home on July 25 with a couple from the lovely town of Windsor, near Santa Rosa. After having been neutered and microchipped, Buddy joined his new companion, Brandi, a four year old female Miniature Schnauzer. Brandi lost her beloved companion in April of this year and was longing for a new guy to take walks with again. It was love at first sight!
Hunter
Hunter is a 2-year-old salt-and-pepper male Miniature Schnauzer who was rescued from the Yolo County shelter in Woodlands. The shelter described him as timid, but his personality bloomed after only a few days in foster care. He became lively and affectionate, and played non-stop with another young Schnauzer in his foster home. He was neutered and microchipped while in foster care, and also had surgery to remove embedded foxtails.
Hunter was adopted by a home in Campbell where he will enjoy several walks a day, hiking, and trips to the beach.
Audrey
Audrey's lucky day was when we got the call to rescue her up from the Roseville Shelter, where she had already spent almost six weeks. When our foster volunteer met her, Audrey was just SO excited for the company and attention. She couldn't wait to leave that kennel and get to her temporary home, where she had a yard, and where she could run and play with the other dogs in the home. Being only a year old, Audrey is still basically a puppy and needs a lot of regular play time and attention. From her history, we knew that Audrey shouldn't be placed in a home with toddlers, which might be the only reason she hadn't been adopted from the shelter. Audrey is also a special needs dog because of a prior urinary tract infection requiring a restrictive diet.
Once we placed Audrey's photo and story on our rescue website, there were several requests to meet her. In the end, because there were so many good folks out there wanting to give Audrey a new home and a new life, we decided to let her do the "adopting." It was a tough choice for her, because Audrey loves everybody. She's now living in a great home with a fenced back yard and a doggie door for easy access. Best of all, she has a nine year old girl to play with and sleep with at night. It was love at first sight.
Eddie
Eddie was rescued from a municipal shelter in Tulare County earlier this year. He was estimated to be about 4 to 5 years old, was emaciated and had a halter imbedded in his back. After the halter was surgically removed, Eddie was placed in one of our Northern California foster homes. Unfortunately, it became immediately clear that Eddie was in serious trouble and near death. He required emergency surgery to remove three golf ball sized stones from his urinary tract. He also required weeks of recuperation and loving care. As you can see by the "after" photo, Eddie did just fine. No longer living on the streets, he was adopted by a loving family and takes regular rides on his own golf cart.
Thanks to the generous donations of supporters of MSCNC Rescue, dogs like Eddie have a second chance at the good life.

Frankie, aka Frank and Beans
Frankie is a purebred, 6 month old male salt & pepper Miniature Schnauzer puppy. Frankie is good with dogs, cats, and small children. Frankie has natural ears and a docked tail. He is current with vaccinations, and neutered.
His owner in Rancho Cordova was heartbroken about having to give Frankie up, but could no longer keep Frankie following a divorce. After reviewing several applications for Frankie, we found what the owner considered the perfect family in Reno, NV, to adopt Frankie. Unfortunately, though the adopters are heartbroken because they love Frankie, they are unable to keep him because their son is allegeric to Frankie.
Frankie went to his second new home, hopefully his permanent one, on July 10, 2010.
Westley (now Baci)
Westley is a 2 year-old black and silver male with beautiful natural ears and a face that says "You will just LOVE me!!". He is quite playful and enjoyed his cat roommate, but needed a lot more one-on-one time with the person in his life. His former owner's schedule had become too full and took her away from home more time than Westley deserved.
Westley quickly took over the hearts of a lovely couple in the Bay Area and he already has been getting lots of the attention his former owner was hoping he would find. He has already been making whirlwind runs through the house with his new playmate, Pia, a 3 year-old Mini Schnauzer mix. After getting him neutered, updated on shots and microchiped, the entire family will be taking long walks and hikes in the Berkeley and Oakland hills.
Pepper
Pepper came from a family who lost their home.
Pepper is a purebred female salt and pepper Miniature Schnauzer, about 6 years old. She's in good health, spayed, and up-to-date on vaccinations. Her ears are cropped and her tail is docked. Her teeth have just been cleaned.
Pepper is very friendly. She seems to like everyone.
Pepper was fostered by Joyce Nagel of Southern California Schnauzer Rescue in Palmdale. Pepper left on June 11, 2010 for a new home with an older lady in Fresno, who found Pepper through this website.
Josh
Josh is a purebred male salt and pepper Miniature Schnauzer.
Josh was a stray. He's about one and a half years old. Josh is au natural with his ears and tail intact. He has, however, been neutered. He is up-to-date on vaccinations and appears to be in good health.
Josh was fostered by Joyce Nagel of Southern California Schnauzer Rescue in Palmdale. He went to a new home near Sacramento on June 6, 2010, where he will be living with the adopters' 7-year old daughter and a 10-year old female Schnauzer. Josh's adopters found Josh on this website.
Smokey
Smokey is a Miniature Schnauzer/Shih Tzu mix, who is about 4 years old. He's neutered, current on vaccinations, microchipped, and ready for a great new home where he can provide much love and great companionship.
Smokey and his female partner, Ashes, were on death row at the Stanislaus County Animal shelter. Ashes is already adopted, but Smokey is still waiting for someone to fall in love with his sweet disposition and offer him a new, forever home.
Smokey is very affectionate and loves to cuddle up on your lap. He is quiet and good natured, and walks nicely on a leash. Smokey was horribly filthy and matter when he arrived at the shelter as a stray, but he was a perfect gentleman while he had to be cleaned up and shaved down.
Smokey has the salt & pepper, non-shed coat and docked tail of a Schnauzer, and the longer body and shorter legs of a Shih Tzu. This litle guy is cute, cute, cute. He is crate-trained and about 85% house-trained. It won't take but a little bit of patience and regular trips outside for him to be 100% reliable in the house.
Smokey wen to his new forever home in Ione on May 14, 2010, where he will be joining a rescued female lab/shep mix. After a brief meeting, it was love at first sight between the two of them.
Storm
Storm is an adorable small (13 lb.) female salt-and-pepper schnauzer who will be 2 years old in July, 2010. She is microchipped, spayed, up-to-date on shots, healthy, and comes with AKC papers. A San Jose couple rescued her from a backyard breeder who kept her crated in his garage, or let her run wild with another small dog.
The couple that rescued Storm have 3 young children, another Schnauzer, and many visitors to their home. They loved her but felt that she would be happier in a much quieter home where she can get lots of lap time and attention, and where there are no kids. Storm tends to be fearful of strangers, nervous around kids, and needs further socialization. She is an affectionate little girl and loves to be held quietly on a lap and snuggle.
Storm went to her new home in Discovery Bay on April 20, 1010.
Riley and Peaches
Riley and Peaches are sisters and have never spent a day apart, which is why we wanted to place them together. They are truly devoted to each other—they don't even argue about treats or toys. They curl up together for naps and bedtime; Riley sometimes uses sister Peaches for a pillow. They're three years old, already spayed and up to date on all their vaccinations. Riley (the salt and pepper) is a big girl, very playful and talkative. Little sister Peaches is a dainty girl (maybe 11 pounds), quiet and cuddly, and loves to be picked up and carried. The girls are house trained and well behaved. When off leash at the doggie park, they never stray too far away, and always come when called. They get along with children and other dogs, but Peaches will be somewhat timid around big, noisy boy dogs until she gets to know them. They both seem to ignore cats, unless they find one that will play a game of chase.
These sweet girls are healthy and well adjusted. They were raised by a good family who obviously loved them and took excellent care of them. They were adopted (together, of course) shortly after their appearance on our website. Unfortunately, because of unforeseen circumstances, their adoptive family had to return them soon after the adoption. No worries, their foster family decided that it was fate, and the sisters are living the good lifein Rancho Murieta, CA. They share their home with 10 year old Butch, two cats, and the occasional foster dog.
Ruthie
Ruthie is a small, cute, very affectionate female Schnauzer mix, about 11-12 lbs. Ruthie is about two years old.
Ruthie's former owners surrendered her to the Los Angeles East Valley shelter after she had a litter of puppies. Ruthie was shell-shocked and depressed after being separated from her puppies and living in the shelter for three weeks. We did not want to add even more changes to her life by placing her right after rescuing her. However, after a few weeks in foster care. Ruthie is again the happy little dog she once was and is looking forward to a new forever home. Ruthie loves people and other dogs, and loves having her belly rubbed. Ruthie does not bark at noises outside but lets you know when it is biscuit-time with a welcoming "Aroooo" (which is likely how she got her name).
Ruthie is spayed, micro-chipped, up-to-date on her shots, and has just had her teeth cleaned. Ruthie would love a home with someone to love her and ply her with biscuits (but with enough restraint not to let her get fat, since she is an eager eater).
Ruthie went to her new home in Jackson on April 6, 2010.
Petey
Petey is a purebred male Miniature Schnauzer, about 2 to 3 years old. We rescued Petey from the Lodi shelter. Petey is neutered, up to date on vaccinations, and heartworm negative. Petey weighs 24.5 lbs.
Petey is very even tempered. He was a family dog before he was surrendered to the shelter.
Petey went to his forever new home on April 3, 2010, just in time for Easter. He will be living in San Francisco and should eat well since his adopter is a personal chef.
The photo to the left is Petey after his foster mom groomed him. The photo to the right shows Petey relaxing in his new home with his new toy bone.
Betsy
Betsy is 13 pounds of fun and love (but hardly any trouble). Betsy ended up in "the system" when she outlived her senior owner—certainly not through any fault of her own. Betsy is about 3 years old. She gets along great with other dogs, though she can be timid around large dogs until she's sure they won't hurt her. Betsy is gentle and tolerant with kids, but likes to chase cats. She's a healthy, happy, well-adjusted little girl. Betsy is up to date on her vaccinations, and already spayed—in other words, ready to go to her new family.
When Betsy was surrendered by the family of her elderly owner, she immediately went into a loving foster home near Sacramento, where she had a great but short vacation. On March 27, after less than a week in her foster home, Betsy went to her new permanent home. They say that Betsy is the perfect little girl—house trained, comfortable with a doggie door (small enough for a cat door, too!), and self-feeding. Lots of energy and very, very loving and affectionate,
— — Back to top of page — —
Jack
Jack is a salt and pepper Miniature Schnauzer who appears to be 3–5 years old. We had him checked out at the vet's and the vet says that Jack seems to be in perfect health. Jack is on the large size for a Miniature Schnauzer at 22 lbs and 16" tall. Jack's teeth are in good condition. He has no parasites and no signs of ear infection. Jack has been tested for heartworms and is heartworm free.
Jack was filthy, stinky and completely matted when found. He looks much better now that he has been bathed and groomed and will look still more handsome when his beard and leg hair grow back. Jack is neutered and up-to-date on vaccinations.
Jack loves playing with kids, other dogs, and cats. Jack comes when called, responds to both his name and to whistles, and he knows "sit" and "shake." Jack is housebroken and knows how to use a doggie door.
On March 22, 2010, Jack moved to his new home with a family from Travis Air Force Base.
Gretchen
Gretchen is a 4 to 5 year old female Miniature Schnauzer who weighs 24 lbs. Gretchen was out on her own with a doggie buddy, when she was found in Calaveras County. Gretchen is a sweet little girl, but needed to build her confidence up as she was a bit timid with new people. Gretchen was a mess on intake, but under all the hair was this gorgeous Schnauzer.
Gretchen went to her new home on March 18, 2010. Gretchen (now Pipi) lives in Colfax with her companion Schnauzer Missy. Both are about the same age (3 years) and visit the neighbor's two male Schnauzers up the street with their owners. All get along fine and run around and play in the large yard.
Moose
Moose is an affectionate young, neutered male Miniature Schnauzer, who we were fostering in the Auburn area.
Moose was adopted on March 11, 2010 by a couple who live in Sonora. They had had 2 Schnauzers who had died of old age. They live in a home on a few acres (with a smaller fenced yard) and a parrot or two.
The wife is home alone much of the time as her husband works in San Jose, so she and Moose will be great company for each other.
Banjo
Banjo is a purebred male Miniature Schnauzer, about 22 lbs. Banjo will be 1 yr old on March 26. He is neutered, has all of his shots and is microchipped. Banjo likes other dogs and cats, but has never been around children and seems to be afraid of them. Banjo is very sweet and lovable, is housebroken and uses a doggy door. If the doggy door is closed, Banjo sits by it and barks to go out.
Banjo was owned by a married couple. The husband bought Banjo as a gift for his wife. The husband just passed away and the wife is now she is unable to take care of Banjo by herself.
Banjo was adopted by a retired couple in Pismo Beach on March 12, 2010, just in time to celebrate St. Patrick's day.
Charlie
Charlie is a black, five year old neutered male Miniature Schnauzer who was living in Sparks, NV. His owners' work schedules changed and Charlie then had to spend much more time home alone. Realizing that Charlie needed more attention than they could give him, his owners contacted MSCNC Rescue. MSCNC received a call from a family in Napa who were looking for a rescued Schnauzer. The adopters drove to Sparks the next morning to pick up Charlie.
Charlie's new adopters are a fireman and they have 2 daughters 5 and 19. Charlie got to go to work with his new adopter and got ride in a fire truck the 2nd day he was in Napa. Needless to say, Charlie is having a ball in his new home.
Lainie
Is that really the same dog in both photos? You can bet your Milk-Bone she is! The shelter wasn't even sure if Lainie was a purebred Miniature Schnauzer, but under the dirty, smelly matted mess in the photo at the left—taken in the shelter—was the beautiful, clearly purebred female Miniature Schnauzer in the photo on the right. Accomplishing the transformation required 3 baths and more than 5 hours of grooming. Lainie put up with all of that like the trooper she is.
Lainie, who is about 10 years old, had been at the Los Angeles East Valley shelter for almost a month when MSCNC Rescue Committee member John Hoffman rescued her on January 14. After the three baths and hours of work by master groomer Alice Kashirsky, who worked hard to save as much of Lainie's beard and leg hair as possible—rather than just shaving off all the matted hair—Lainie now looks like the beautiful Schnauzer she was under the mess. Lainie will look even better when she regrows the eyebrows that someone cut off before we got her.
Lainie is an eager eater, bounces across the kitchen when someone comes in, enjoys going for walks, gets along well with other dogs, and likes children.
Lainie spent about a month residing with MSCNC Rescue Committee member John Hoffman near Pasadena in southern California. On February 21, 2010, Lainie went to a great new home in Manteca, where she is the apple of her adopter's eyes.
Ethan
Ethan is a super-friendly purebred salt & pepper male Miniature Schnauzer, about 6 years old, who loves everyone. MSCNC member John Hoffman rescued Ethan from the L.A. County shelter in Agoura. Unfortunately, the shelter clipped off Ethan's beard. Ethan will look a lot better when his beard grows back in.
Ethan was fostered by Joyce Nagel in Palmdale. Ethan went to a wonderful new home in Sacramento on February 21, 2010. We understand he immediately went to work exploring every corner of his new home.
Remington
Remington is an affectionate 5 year old, neutered male Miniature Schnauzer. We rescued Remington from the Placerville shelter.
On Valentines Day, February 14, 2010, Remington was adopted by a family in Grants Pass, OR, who saw him on this website.
Toby
Toby is a one year old white Miniature Schnauzer. Toby's former owner and her then boyfriend bought Toby from a breeder in Riverside. She and her boyfriend later broke up. Alone all day, Toby was getting himself in trouble as puppies are wont to do—chewing on cabinets and furniture. On the plus side, Toby is crate trained (though he prefers to snuggle up next to his human on the bed). Toby is housebroken and asks to go out when he needs to do so. Also, Toby is very sweet—he likes other dogs and people.
Toby went to his new home in Spark, NV. on February 6, 2010. His adopters have a boy about 8 and a girl around 6. Toby was in love at first sight and was off with the boy walking and playing.
Sadie
Sadie was surrendered by a family in Modesto who were losing their home and could not take a dog to their new home. While Sadie is very friendly, she represented a challenge because we needed to place her quickly, she was not spayed, and she had not been groomed in more than a year. Fortunately, we had a prospective adopter on our waiting list since before Christmas, who was looking for a middle aged dog. At 5 years old, Sadie was the perfect fit.
We had Sadie groomed and spayed, and she is now living happily in her new home in Modesto.

Hadley
Hadley is a friendly and alert black purebred female Miniature Schnauzer. We estimate her age at 7-8 years old. MSCNC member John Hoffman rescued Hadley from the L.A. County Shelter in Agoura. She is spayed, microchipped, and up-to-date on her shots.
Hadley was initially fostered in Palmdale, and then moved to a foster home in Sunnyvale in early January. Sweet but shy, she bloomed in foster care and quickly became more confident, energetic, and playful. She loves her food and walks. This pretty girl found a wonderful forever home in the Danville area with a loving family and 5-year-old male salt & pepper Schnauzer named Zaphie.
Spencer
Spencer is a very cute white Miniature Schnauzer who we rescued from the Sacramento shelter and fostered in the Sacramento area.
Spencer was adopted on January 12, 2010 by a couple from Sacramento, who have an adult child living with them. Spencer will not lack for company because someone will be home with Spencer all of the time.
Scamp
Scamp is a very friendly 1-1/2 year old purebred neutered male Miniature Schnauzer. Scamp suffered a broken rear leg when he was hit by a car in southern California. The surgeons put a pin in his leg when repairing the break, and eventually the pin was removed. Scamp spent quite a while under the care of Joyce Nagel of the Miniature Schnauzer Club of Southern California Rescue in Palmdale, California while his leg healed.
A member of the MSCNC foster team saw Scamp on this web site. His penetrating eyes and whiskered good looks made it a match. His adoptive mom drove down to Palmdale in early January to bring Scamp back to his permanent home in Sunnyvale. This handsome salt and pepper boy is adjusting well to his new home with other mini-Schnauzers and a Greyhound.
Scamp loves his toys, walks, snuggles, and food. He is being given water therapy to improve the flexibility of his rear leg.
Maisie
Maisie is a 4-year old purebred miniature schnauzer that we rescued from the San Francisco SPCA on December 19th.
This pretty, affectionate, tail-wagging girl went to a foster home in the South Bay where she responded well to the companionship of other mini-Schnauzers and a Greyhound. Her foster mom worked with Maisie on retraining her to sit and stay rather than rush out open doors.
On Christmas Day, a woman in the Sacramento area looked at this web site and saw Maisie. She contacted us and a visit was arranged. It was love at first sight for both her and Maisie.
Koga
Koga was rescued from the Placer SPCA on December 5, 2009. He spent several weeks in a foster home in the South Bay with several mini-Schnauzers and a Greyhound.
In mid-December, just before Christmas, Koga went to his new forever home in Redwood City. His new family have a 5-year-old male Schnauzer who was grieving the loss of a Schnauzer companion and was severely depressed. Within one day, all of that changed. Koga (renamed "Baxter") is already best buddies with Skeeter, his purebred black Schnauzer companion, and is adjusting beautifully to his new home and adoptive mom & dad.
Koga and Skeeter were having such a good time that they destroyed all of their original toys while playing. Fortunately, Santa brought them new ones.
Charlie
Charlie was found as a stray in San Mateo. We found Charlie a new home in Santa Rosa with a recently retired woman who was a 911 dispatcher. Charlie and his new adopter reportedly adore each other and Charlie's 2010 should be a lot better than his 2009.
Baxter
Baxter (formerly Bach) is a lovable, purebred 8 year old neutered male Miniature Schnauzer. Baxter was surrendered to the Oakdale Shelter because his family couldn't afford to pay for testing and treatment for an intestinal problem. Shelter Pet Alliance kindly paid the cost of treatment. After extensive blood work, exams, and 4 days at Monte Vista Animal Hospital, Baxter is fully recovered. He has also hadsome dental work done. Baxter is housetrained and knows how to use a dog door. Baxter likes other dogs, particularly easy going spayed females of any size. He is a polite, well mannered boy who willl sit on command and catch treats on the fly. When he gets worried or excited he yips with a high pitched little squeal, but he is otherwise a pretty quiet boy.
Baxter was fostered my MSCNC Rescue Committee Betsie Corwin and went to his new forever home right after Thanksgiving 2009.
Kelly
Kelly is a sweet, 11 year old purebred Miniature Schnauzer lady who loves everyone and likes to get lots of love. Kelly is a perfect angel in the home and a joy to have around. She is potty trained, mellow, fun and loving. Kelly loves to be by your side and hang out. She is quiet, likes other dogs, and is a wonderful pet.
Kelly was available for adoption at the Rancho Coastal Humane Society in Encinitas, CA, and is now happily adjusting to a new home. We do not know yet if this site played any role in finding her adopters.
Amy
Amy is a sweet, very affectionate, 5 year old, spayed, female salt & pepper Miniature Schnauzer.
Amy's owner had surrendered her because he is going to school and does not have enough time to spend with her.
Amy went to a new home in Milpitas on September 20, 2009. Amy has a new boyfriend there, a 5 year old Schnauzer named George.
Jazzy
Jazzy is a super friendly 3 year old female Miniature Schnauzer. Jazzy was rescued by Joyce Nagel of Miniature Schnauzer Club of Southern California Rescue, in Palmdale. Jazzy was adopted by a northern California family who saw her on this website. We hope Jazzy will have a great life with her new family.

Bond
Bond is a Miniature Schnauzer, about 1 year old, 20 pounds and sporting a new do. What a handsome boy he is! Bond is very friendly, has lots of energy, and loves people. Bond loves attention and wants to stay close. And he talks. . He will be a very loving, interesting member of any family.
Bond was at the Madera County Animal Control and was adopted through this website by a gentleman in San Francisco, where Bond will be living with a Parsons Jack Russell Terrier as a companion.
Chase and Sasha
Chase, male, and Sasha, female, are 8 year old purebred Miniature Schnauzers, whose owner passed away. They are in good health, housebroken, and make friends easily with dogs and people. On November 5, 2009, a lady in Orinda, who had recently lost her two black Miniature Schnauzers, adopted both Chase and Sasha. Chase and Sasha can thus enjoy a wonderful new home together.
Sprite
We rescued Sprite from the Stanislaus County shelter, kept her in a foster home, and placed Sprite in a permanent new home on Halloween 2009, where she will be joining her adopters' two other Schnauzers. Sprite likes other dogs and immediately set about developing relationships with the other dogs at her foster home. We have no doubt she will do the same with her two new Schnauzer companions.
Neeko
Neeko is a purebred male Miniature Schnauzer, just turning one year old. Neeko was living in the Chico area. Neeko is very sweet and affectionate and loves attention. Neeko preferred an adult only home, and that is exactly what we found for him. Neeko is happy in his new home in Oakland with a retired nurse educator and his own live-in girlfriend, a Standard Schnauzer.
Timmy
Timmy is a purebred, neutered, salt & pepper 23 lb. male Miniature Schnauzer about 5 years old. The photo on the left came from the shelter before we rescued him. Timmy went to his new home on September 4th. Timmy looks a lot better now now that he is groomed and looks a lot more comfortable resting on a soft surface in his new home. He is living with Mark and Kelley in Oakdale, where he has a live-in female Miniature Dachshund friend. Timmy has a big backyard to play in and life looks a lot brighter than when he was in the shelter.
Otto (formerly Archie)
Otto is a neutered, male 2 1/2 Miniature Schnauzer, who was at the Napa County Animal Shelter. Otto was adopted on August 24, 2009 by a young couple in Sonoma who had contacted the MSCNC Rescue Committee to find a new Schnauzer, and who then looked at Otto on this website. The photo on the left shows Otto at the shelter. The photo to the right shows Otto relaxing in his new home. Here's what his new owners have to say:
Otto (aka "Archie" to you) is the sweetest, most loving and gentle dog we could ever have hoped for! He is adapting very well to his new home and learning fast. He can sit, shake and (sometimes) stay. Otto is learning how to walk on a leash and is more confident every day. He also enjoys sitting and looking at himself in a full-length mirror of our guest room—which, by the way, he adopted as HIS room the day we brought him home! I cannot thank you enough for calling me to let me know he was at our Napa shelter. Otto brings so much love and joy to our lives. My husband, Greg, and I couldn't be happier!
Molly
Molly is an 8 year old female Miniature Schnauzer. Molly was being fostered by a vet tech from the veterinary practice to which Molly had been taken since she was a puppy. Molly was surrendered by her owners when she suffered an attack of pancreatitis (which usually can be avoided by not feeding table scraps or other fatty foods). Molly is now in good health, and very affectionate. Molly went to a new home with a couple in American Canyon on August 14, 2009.
Jack
Jack is a 6 year old male purebred salt & pepper male Miniature Schnauzer. Jack was saved from an abusive, neglectful home by a kind neighbor and brought to Joyce Nagel, who does Schnauzer rescue, Palmdale. Jack likes people, kids, dogs, and anyone who will play with him. As of August 4, 2009, Jack is in a new home in Sacramento with a family who found him on this website.
Gracie
(Photo to come—we hope!)
Gracie is a female Miniature Schnauzer, about 3 years old, who was living in the Magalia area. Gracie's owners were a military family who have been stationed in Korea for the past year and a half. Gracie was living with friends of the owners, but the owners decided that it was time for Gracie to have a permanent new home because they will be stationed in Korea longer than expected. Gracie loves kids and is good with even young kids. She is now in her new home with a family in Hayward.
Peter
(Photo to come—we hope!)
Peter is an affectionate male Miniature Schnauzer, about 2 years old. Peter was rescued by another rescue group, which did not have a foster home for him and asked us to take him. We placed Peter in a great foster home near Sacramento, and arranged to have Peter neutered. Peter went to a new home in Reno on August 1, where he will live with a female Miniature Schnauzer and a Labrador Retriever.

Princess
Princess is an AKC Champion salt & pepper Miniature Schnauzer, about 5 years old. She, and Gigi (below) were owned by an MSCNC member who was unable to keep them because he has health problems that have deprived him of the ability to care for them. Here is a report from Princess's new adopters in Placerville:
"THANK YOU!!! Princess is just the most wonderful little lady. I picked her up in Antioch yesterday (7/29) at 10:30. She is just so sweet. The two hour drive home went perfectly. She gets along great with my two other dog and the cat. She seems to be totally housebroken (at least so far) and we are working on using the dog door. Three dogs, a cat and two people all slept in the same bed all night. The alpha shih tzu even allowed Princess to sleep in his special spot on the bed (under my chin). My blind schnauzer and Princess were wandering around the yard as if they had always known each other. The only problem is that Princess wants to do kissies at 3:00 in the morning and as you can guess I was not thrilled. My husband loved her at first sight and she cuddled with him on this chair for several hours. My husband is home every day while I am at work so he spends many hours with our fur children. He would be very lonesome without the dogs. I already have an appointment for spaying and shots. I will keep you updated.
Thank you again. We are so happy to get such a great little dog."
Gigi
(Photo to come—we hope!)
Gigi is a purebred salt & pepper Miniature Schnauzer, about 2 or 3 years old. Like Princess above, Gigi was owned by an MSCNC member who could no longer keep them because of health problems that have deprived him of the ability to care for dogs. Gigi was adopted by a family from Navato in late July 2009.
Abby
Abby had lived all of her life with an older lady who recently had to go into a care center after falling in her house and being unable to get up. Abby guarded her injured owner for 3 days until help came, dragging pillows over to her owner in an effort to make her owner as comfortable as possible. The owner's children nonetheless did not want Abby and surrendered her to the vet to be euthanized. The vet contacted MSCNC's Rescue Committee. We provided needed surgery for removal of bladder stones and had some needed dental work done. On July 16, 2009, Abby went to a new foster home, which later decided to adopt Abby.
Raider
Raider is a super-friendly black male Miniature Schnauzer, about 4 years old. Raider came into the Miniature Schnauzer Club of Southern California rescue because his owners got divorced and neither could keep him. Raider was adopted by a family from Red Bluff, who found Raider on this website. Their elderly Schnauzer had just passed away and they were looking for a new companion for their female Schnauzer. Raider was happy to step in.
Ozzie
Ozzie is a 4 year old neutered male Miniature Schnauzer who was surrendered to MSCNC Rescue by his owners when they moved to a new home and could not take Ozzie with them. Jeff and Gloria Young from Santa Rosa very kindly provided a foster home for Ozzie, until Ozzie was adopted on June 30, 2009, by a gentleman in Merced who saw Ozzie on this website.
Tasha
Tasha is a 10 year old salt & pepper Miniature Schnauzer, who was in the Placer SPCA. Tasha's owners had surrendered her when they moved to a new home where they could not take her. We did not have a foster home for Tasha and Muttville, a rescue group that specializes in rescuing older dogs, kindly rescued Tasha and found her a foster home in the San Francisco area.
The photo on the left was taken at the shelter. The photo on the right was taken by Muttville after they had Tasha groomed. (Tasha sure looks a lot happier after grooming, doesn't she?)
Tasha was adopted on June 3, 2009 by a Nevada City family who found her on this website and contacted Muttville. Here's what they have to say about Tasha:
"I did get Tasha, and she's a wonderful dog! Her Muttville foster dad that I met couldn't have been nicer—I'm sure the time spent in their home did her a lot of good. She is just a terrific dog—very energetic and loves to play fetch, but not nervous or hyper. We took her to a dog park and she is great around other dogs and kids, too. Tasha seems really well-adjusted, calm and happy. It's hard to see why anyone would have parted with her."
Spencer
Spencer is a 4 1/2 year old purebred Miniature Schnauzer, about 22 lbs. Spencer is very affectionate and playful. He likes adults, kids and other dogs. Spencer's owners were working long hours and were unable to spend enough time with him. They asked us to list Spencer, who has his own Kodak Gallery, with seventeen photos of him (opens in a new browser window). Spencer has been adopted. We don't yet know if the adopter was someone who saw Spencer on this website.
Wyls
Wyls (pronounced "Wills") is about 4–6 years old. He is a purebred, salt and pepper male Miniature Schnauzer whose previous owner dumped him on a farm in Kings County. Wyls lucked out in that he was rescued and fostered by a Standard Schnauzer breeder, who took him to the vet, and got him up to date on vaccinations, wormed, de-fleaed, microchiped, groomed, neutered, and had his dental work done. Wyls is a cheerful, active guy who adapted to his foster home very quickly. We listed Wyls on this website as soon as he was rescued, but before we could find him a home, his rescuer's sister decided to adopt him. Another happy ending.
Cassidy
Cassidy was surrendered by her owner to Pinole Animal Shelter. We learned that she had been peeing in the house continually since the owner purchased her a week before surrendering her. The neighbor of the owner contacted us to tell us that owner had taken Cassidy to the shelter. We contacted Pat and Susan in Sacramento who agreed to foster Cassidy until we could find a permanent home for her. They drove to Martinez that afternoon, picked Cassidy up, and took her to their veterinarian. She was diagnosed with a simple urinary infection which would be cleared up quickly with drugs. Cassidy is now living permanently at Pat and Susan's where she rules the roost! Cassidy has even gotten their Chow-mix out of bed to play with her. Everyone has a new outlook on life.
Bridgit
Bridgit is a sweet 14 year old purebred Miniature Schnauzer, whose owners brought her to the Oakdale shelter to be euthanized, because her owners had 2 Schanuzers and are moving to a place where they can only have one dog. The shelter attendant talked the owners out of having Bridgit euthanized and got their permission to put Bridget up for adoption. We listed Bridgit on this site. We don't know if our listing her had anything to do with her being placed, but Bridgit lucked out and was adopted by a nice couple only 3 days after arriving at the shelter.

Mitzy
Mitzi is a middle-aged, spayed female Miniature Schnauzer who was rescued from a kill shelter by ResQ Animal Coalition, in Redding. Mitzy was turned into the shelter by her owner's family after her owner died. Mitzi has had a thorough exam by ResQ's vet, including blood work, and was pronounced "healthy and fit". Mitzy looks more like a teddy bear than a Schnauzer because whoever groomed her didn't do a Schnauzer cut, but Mitzi's beard has no doubt grown back by now. Mitzi was adopted by a young couple in Sacramento, who found her on this website. Mitzi's adoptive family includes a Dachshund who is quickly becoming Mitzi's new best friend.
Rose
Rose is a 10-month old puppy mill puppy, who was turned over to ResQ Animal Coalition, in Redding, not yet housebroken. Rose was a scared, unsocialized little girl of 10 mos, who needs a loving, experienced dog owner. ResQ worked hard on getting Rose used to human contact by taking her to the dog park and just spending time with her in general. Rose now has a new home in Nevada with adopters who found her on this website. Her adopters understand Rose's need for more socialization and report that Rose is doing well in her new home.
Dexter
Dexter is a one year old Miniature Schnauzer who was at the Roseville shelter. MSCNC Rescue Committee member Betsie Corwin picked Dexter up the at Roseville shelter and placed him with a family in Auburn. Betsie describes Dexter as "a real cuddle bug." The adopters took all of 2 seconds to fall in love with Dexter as can be seen from the photo on the right.
Sherlock
Sherlock is a very sweet 3 year old neutered male Miniature Schnauzer who was at the Santa Rosa Animal Shelter for about a month. Sherlock has been adopted as of April 23, 2009. The shelter tells us that it believes the adopters first saw Sherlock on this website.
Snap
Snap, a neutered male Miniature Schnauzer, probably between a year and a year and a half old, was at the Napa Animal Shelter. Snap is friendly, does sit and down on command, and is housebroken. Snap has now been adopted as a result of having been pictured on this website, by adopters who adopted their previous Schnauzer through long-time MSCNC rescue committee member Milly Robertson.
Zach (formerly Lucky)
Zach is a 1 year old black & silver neutered male miniature schnauzer with tons of energy and brains. If he had the chance he would fetch and return a ball until he dropped. At 20 pounds, he is large for a mini. Zach had some separation anxiety, but is learning to relax when his family needs to leave the house. Zach was adopted by a couple in Riverbank on April 14 2009. Zach's adopters, who had Schnauzers years ago and missed having one, are planning to retire and look forward to traveling in their mothorhome with Zach. They love his energy and his enthusiasm, especially for chasing the ball.
Benjamin
Benjamin is a purebred, intact male Miniature Schnauzer, about 10yrs old, who was rescued by PALS, a group that assists the Lodi Shelter, after he was picked up as a stray. Benjamin was reunited with his owners after they saw him listed on this website, and thus found out where he was.
Gracie (formerly Mitzie)
Gracie is a very sweet purebred 12 year old Miniature Schnauzer. Gracie was adopted on Valentine's Day 2009 by a couple in Napa who also have two rescued cats. What a great Valentine's Day gift for Gracie—and for the couple who adopted her! Here's what Gracie's adopter's have to say about her:
I wanted you to know how well Gracie is doing! We just love her to bits and what a joy she is. She sleeps a lot but when she is awake she plays and follows us all around the apt. She has taken a shine to Robert especially…it's so cute and he just loves it! She even jumps on the sofa to sit next to him and if he stops petting her for a second, she taps on his hand with her paw…adorable! We noticed she did not like walking in the rain so we bought her a rain coat. Now we can walk longer and she seems to be happier with her coat on. The cats are getting along fine with her. She tried to play with Pooh this morning and Pooh wasn't sure about that but it was only the first time. Things are going well there, and will take some time but we are confident. There has been no hissing or swatting…just a cat's curiosity.
Brodie
Brodie is a 2 1/2 year old salt and pepper Miniature Schnauzer. Brodie's adoptors say he has been a Godsend to their family. Through the efforts of MSCNC's Rescue Committee, they adopted Brodie from a Los Banos family on February 15, 2009 shortly after the death of the adoptors' 14 year-old Schnauzer. Brodie bonded with his adoptive family very quickly. They describe Brodie as smart, playful, and energetic. Brodie eagerly fetches his stuffed animal. He loves to snuggle in his new owners' laps to watch tv or nap. Brodie also gets along well with Piper, their 4 1/2 year old German Shepherd/Lab mix (an animal control rescue). The two dogs run and play in the back yard and they snuggle up at bedtime.
Bailey
Bailey is a 6 year old purebred salt & pepper Miniature Schnauzer, with uncropped ears, who is in good health. Bailey needed a new home because his owner died. Bailey lucked out big time! On January 21, 2009, Bailey joined his new family in Piedmont, and spent the next day as the star of a Super Bowl party, where he kept himself busy schmoozing with all the other guests.

Fiona
Fiona is a doll. She is very sweet and gets along with everyone. Through the efforts of MSCNC member Mary Alford, and a friend, Betsie Corwin, Fiona was adopted by Susan, a single lady in Burlingame who lives in a pet-friendly apartment building and who is able to take Fiona to work with her most days.
Susan reports that Fiona is very good at the office. Fiona already knows where Susan keeps her handbag and keys both at home and work. As long as both are put away, Fiona is content. Susan usually wears slippers at home. If Susan puts on her shoes and picks up keys or handbag, Fiona takes pre-emptive action and moves between Susan and the door. Susan bought a seatbelt harness for Fiona, who now rides in the backseat like she's always done it. Fiona loves to travel!
Mia and Roxy
Mia and Roxy are 5 month old Miniature Schnauzer puppies who were placed through the efforts of MSCNC member Walter Poeth. They were surrendered in Roseville and were adopted together by a couple in Nice, California. Mia is timid and shy, while Roxy rules the roost. Both are adapting well to their new home and the resident cat is adapting to having 2 Schnauzers in the house.
Ranger
Ranger was rescued by the Friends of Animal Control of Tuolumne County and placed by MSCNC. Ranger was adopted by a couple in Livermore who have a black Miniature Schnauzer and a Parsons Jack Russell Terrier. They hope to train Ranger to compete in agility.
Max
Max was an owner surrender from a military family who was moving to base housing and could only take one of their dogs with him. Max came from a home with 3 adults, 4 children, 3 dogs, and assorted cats and other animals, and loves to play with anyone or anything. Max was adopted by a retired couple in Palm Desert and a gray toy poodle named Nicole, who are immensely enjoying Max's company.
Max (formerly Frankie)
Frankie was rescued by MSCNC member Mary Alford and placed in a new home on October 31, 2008. Frankie is about 5 years old. He was a stray, whose former owners could not be located. Frankie was turned over to the Calaveras Humane Society after coming within inches of being hit by a gravel truck. He was lucky enough to be taken to a foster home shortly after arriving at the shelter where he stayed until rescued by MSCNC. Frankie was very timid and anxious for affection when rescued. Frankie is now in a new home with an adopter in Turlock who adores him and Frankie is enjoying life again.
Abbey Jean (formerly Minkey)
Abbey Jean was rescued by MSCNC member Walter Poeth. She was one of two Schnauzers with a family who had a one-year old child. The dogs had become jealous of the time being spent with the child, and the couple decided they could no longer keep the dogs. Abbey Jean is now living happily with a retired couple in Folsom.
Gracie
Gracie was surrendered by her prior owner, a single mother who lost her job and had to move back with her parents on the east coast. Gracie had been left alone during the day while her owner worked and seemed to have little socialization beyond her owner and the owner's 7 year old daughter. Gracie did not like being around other dogs. We placed Gracie with a widow in Santa Barbara who is an experienced dog owner and who has lots of time to spend with Gracie. Gracie adores her new owner and is now having the best time of her life.
Molly
Molly is a 7 year old Schnauzer, who was rescued from the Los Angeles East Valley shelter in April 2008. Molly had undergone surgery the day before for removal of a bladder stone and to be spayed. Molly greeted MSCNC member John Hoffman with a wagging tail and a plea to get out of the shelter as quickly as possible. The shelter had guessed Molly was 11, but she was clearly younger than that. We were able to fix her age at 7 by her microchip. Molly is now living with a couple in Canyon Country who absolutely adore her.
Maggie
Maggie, a 5 year old Miniature Schnauzer, was rescued by MSCNC from the Los Angeles East Valley Shelter in October 2007. Maggie had been hit by a car two days earlier. She had a broken pelvis and assorted other injuries and was in a lot of pain. Maggie was a very lucky dog. The Hogan Foundation paid for her surgery, which cost nearly $3,000, and we nursed her back to health before placing her in early January 2008 with the same family who adopted Teddy below. The picture on the left is Maggie in the shelter when we picked her up. The picture on the right is Maggie in her new home, able to stand, walk, run, and play with Teddy.
Teddy
Teddy is a Schnauzer mix. He was a 5 month old puppy when MSCNC rescued him from the Orange County shelter in September 2007. Teddy had been hit by a car and had been in the shelter for about a month with an untreated broken leg. Teddy's spirit was indominatable, however. Hobbling around on 3 legs, he greeted us with a briskly wagging tail and then similarly greeted children, other dogs and cats who were nearby at the shelter. We had his broken leg surgically repaired. Joyce Nagel, who does Schnauzer rescue in southern California, nursed Teddy back to health, and placed him with an Orange County couple who, a month later, adopted Maggie as well. Needless to say, Teddy is even happier now that he can once again run and play using all 4 legs.
